do you think Japanese music sounds better to English speaking folk because we cant understand the corniness of some lyrics, for example, im American, and there's some american music that has a good beat, but the lyrics are just to corny and because of that i dont like it, but another example, the fairy tail opening(forget the name), it goes something like lets make a "smile spell", well i really liked that song, and when i read the lyrics i realized how corny it'd be if sung in english.

so i suppose my question is, do Japanese, and well i guess any foreign-ly sung songs(if that even makes sense :erm: ) sound better to people who dont know the said language, due to not recognizing things that would be considered corny if we knew the culture better?

If you disagree, what reasons do you think cause this not really a phenomenon, phenomenon.

and in case people misunderstand for some reason, im saying i enjoy the fact that i like foreign music, and its upsetting that we may miss out on some good music of our native tounge due to social norms and what is considered corny.

the discussion is along the lines of do Japanese people find there music to be corny and dislike it, as i dislike some american music.

or it can be why does this even happen

i dont have a definitive opinion, that would be the reason why id like to discuss, in order to find out the mechanics behind why we may or may not enjoy a foreign music without as much bias as we would use for the music of our native tongue

Music is highly subjective, what you like you like. For me, I look at lyrical content and the usage of instruments, the complexity and intensity of the music and vocals. I also listen to Indian songs (my native tongue is urdu/hindi) and no, I do not find them appealing at all (except for a few songs or bands, like indian ocean, who do in fact have some grace) I suppose it's something of an acquired taste.

Yeah pretty much. Japanese songs sound good even when I have no idea what the hell they're saying. They could be singing 'Death to America' and I'd be bobbing my head like a fool Lol.

Depends. I always search the lyrics before getting crazy about a song. It takes more than a catchy beat to get me.

For instance, most Shonen anime openings sing about stuff like not giving up, believing in yourself, friendship, dreams and other stuff that can be splashed into any series without a problem in a generic worn-out way. The opening you listed being one of them. However, there are also songs that are jeweles in my opinion. Here are some of them:

I believe music can equally sound good regardless of it's origins. I enjoy listening to music from many different genres and really origins shouldn't matter. I don't listen to foreign music because I don't understand the words. I listen because I like the beat and singing. I even listen to some fan dub or covers of anime songs.

Yep I think that's it, word aren't a good way of communication anyway, in fact when I hear a good song I deliberately avoid seeing what the artists look like, or normally sound like, I am solely concerned with the music,

I don't exactly remember but there was a musician who didn't put lyrics for his songs on back of the album cd(this is old time news) when asked why, he said it was because everyone makes up their own versions of what the words are and what it means and it's beautiful and he didn't want to ruin it.

I guess what it means is that you have a richer inner world then the one outside.

Yes, I do think the lyrics of a song can have either a negative or a positive influence on the listener. This is true for me at least; I used to like a song in a different language that I didn't understand, When I looked up its lyrics it just became dull to me, the words were just that poor.

I usually enjoy music of different genres and cultures.
