People hate them because the risk factors are unbelievably high. Cigarettes are, quite indisputably, unhealthy. However, I have no problem with people who smoke. Everyone has their bad habits.

i never smoked or drank in my life. 98 percent of people in my school drink and smoke and i'm one of the 2% people who don't smoke.

My family is the same way. I grew up around cigarette smoke, it was like perfume to me as a kid. xD And then my mom got lung cancer and that in and of itself ended all possibility of me ever smoking. :|
