Intelligence.

Any intelligent person who is also able to charm a wide variety of people is of the same mental breed as a sociopath. The question is merely how they prey upon others.

People like myself do not relish in physical harm or abuse (unless we find the individual particularly revolting); but are going to be quite manipulative in social and mental arenas. That doesn't mean that we are out to -harm- people, or that we are necessarily going to benefit from the exchange - but that we are going to deliberately attempt to engineer the behavior of others in the manner we choose.

That is, in essence, sociopathic behavior; even if it is generally benign.

The people who can charm a wide variety of people without the above are, generally speaking, adorable dolts that others do not feel threatened by.

That's not necessarily to say that 'normal' people are exceptionally different (they will manipulate where they can) - but those with higher intelligence and/or social savvy will be far more successful across the general population. Thus, it will become a more central part of their behavior where others use it more selectively.

Thank you Aim  You so cool :yayy: !

Honestly... I become suspicious when I'm the target of praise.

An age-old inferiority complex rearing its head.

It's just harder to not be suspicious over the internet :p In real life it is easy to tell if someone is being genuine with their praise or not !

I am being genuine because you summed up everything pretty nicely in your previous post :D !

Sociopathic or antisocial personality disorder is a best-known type of personality disorder. They understand intellectually that they have caused the harm but feel no remorse.
They can be extremely manipulative, may have excellent social skills but this is not a rule. Not every sociopath is able to act so well as Dexter. Sociopaths have to act all the time, because they don't have emotions (eg. Scene of car accident - Sociopath sees a dead child lying on pavement. While walking Sociopath accidentally step into the pool of blood of dead child. Sociopath will probably say something like this: "God damn, now my shoes are dirty!")
People with this disorder are often impulsive, and they lack the ability to withstand frustration. So, only if you are so unlucky to know someone similar to Dexter :) you will know the difference between sociopath and normal person.

OMG! :Omg: Dexter from realty just comment my post! =D

Noooo ! I don't even watch that show :/

I'm just saying that other than being a little over the top in enthusiasm and not knowing normal boundaries .... People don't assert me with being a sociopath at all. The trick is to pretend a lot ._. And being able to make fabrications believable . . . .

Not every sociopath is exactly like Dexter though... There are degrees of how sociopathic a person is.

I've already said: "Not every sociopath is able to act so well as Dexter."
Sociopathic personality is psychological disorder. Every patient with psychological disorder is different from another.
For example, (I see you like Game of Thrones) you can find sociopaths in the "Song of Ice and Fire". Viserys Targaryen is great example of sociopath, but he and Dexter are very different.

Sorry, missed that :( Yes, Viserys is a sociopath, but much more outwardly.

You are thinking of a psychopath ..... A sociopath is aware that they're not normal, whereas a psychopath isn't and finds what he/she does to be perfectly logical and acceptable.

A sociopath can easily manipulate someone and know that it is wrong, they just don't care that it is. And why should they :rage: !

Viserys lived in an uncivilized society so he didn't have to pretend, to act, while on the other hand Dexter is person who have to deceive society in order to continue living. Sociopaths tend to adapt and that makes this disorder very difficult to tackle with.
