Do you have to have EMS to unlock rinnegan?

You have to already have senju DNA, and then be on the brink of death to have rinnegan. But do you have to have EMS or even MS to unlock it? What do you guys think? Or will it be like Obito when he only had two tomoe, but when he unlocked MS, he gained a third one.

It is known that the rinnegan is acquired through both Senju and Uchiha DNA. I don't recall one having to unlock EMS to get rinnegan.

Because it is only logical to think so, that you would have to require the second last stage of the Uchiha's eye in order to gain the eyes of a 'God'.

Obito had both Uchiha and Senju DNA and yet he didn't unlock the Rinnegan.

It took Madara a whole lifetime to get the rinnegan... It takes time man, and Obito simply didn't have time to develop the rinnegan on his own.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I believe that Orochimaru most likely wanted an Uchiha body so he could get the Rinnegan to master all jutsu, but if he needed EMS wouldn't this have hindered him? Since he wanted to take Sasuke's body before he even got Mangekyo.

And this would explain why Nagato couldn't switch back to EMS from with Madara's eyes, because it isn't a simple evolution of EMS, it is a whole other dojutsu.

Madara also spoke like there was a possibility of Obito awakening the Rinnegan. He told him "Even if you don't awaken the Rinnegan" even though Obito didn't have EMS.

Maybe you only need Senju+Uchiha DNA w/ another hidden requirement that would explain why Madara got it once his natural life ended (Near death experience maybe).

I'm sure Orochimaru had Hashirama DNA, a Uchiha with Senju DNA is the closest to the Sage & they can easily meld with the DNA because they are relatives.

As for him being hindered by not having an EMS he'd be like Obito & have a Power MS... Plus Senju DNA....
