She's the character that introduces the story, but yoy don't really care about. Like the girl in Norgami and the Midgit in Shaman King

I'm not saying she's useless, more that she tells the story, but the story isn't about her, it's about Natsu and fairy tale

I say Both Lucy and Natsu are, the introduction of the story focus on their meeting, nd they got equal story time,the first face shown in the story was Lucy....thn after the first Time skip Natsu was shown b4 lucy, than the second time skip was Lucy once more....if we may somehow get the third one it wil be Natsu....the Ending of the Manga we wil witness Natsu and Lucy wedding.....
So they are both the main character of the story....they get screen time on equal basis, not to forget Happy as well.
In the war against either Acnologia or Zeref, Lucy magic wil be the key to destroy either one of em.....she is more important in the story than we think she is.....

She's actually the narrator of the story and the most punctual one with fan-service but the main protagonist is Natsu...

I want to correct you.....she is one of the main character of this series.What we are reading is the book written by Lucy on her adventures with Fairy Tail and her journey with them.Natsu is Hero and Lucy is heroine of this series.The main focus of this manga is on Lucy & her life at FT Guild and how she went through the troubles,happiness,grief etc throughout her life along with the mix of other characters backstory like Gray,Erza etc.,. Natsu's back story is also the main focus as he is someone Lucy holds dears to him and a kinda relationship that exists between them.
Lucy is never stated to be the Primary Main character of FT manga.She is one of the Main character of the FT and she is narrating this whole story.Natsu was,is & always will be the hero(main Character) of this manga.I remember mashima saying Natsu is the main character of FT in twitter long long back ago.Mashima himself explicitly stated that 'Natsu is the Main Character' at the start of the series.Lucy and Natsu are the central focus of this manga.

I don't get what the point is of this thread other than some shallow attempt of trying to kick people's shins.

In the end the plot also always falls back on Natsu, so if you find it truly necessary to point out a single main protagonist, you can easily say it's Natsu. The reality though would be more something like that Natsu is the main male protagonist and Lucy the main female protagonist.
Lucy acts often like the narrator though and we more or less see the story from her perspective. When she joined the guild, we likewise "joined". We didn't know anything about FT or the rest and we learned about them when Lucy learned about them. You follow the story through her eyes. However those things are something very different than being the main protagonist.
