Yes and no. What he has gone through is very sad, Rin's death is a good example of a very messed up world (friend kills friend because enemy village attacks them) and no one deserves that. Period. But he has done a lot of questionable things since then, such as the attack on Konoha and the war. So I feel sorry for what happened to him, but he's still an *******.

Could be the only one, but I hope there's still more to his backstory. There's a irritating lack of reasoning when it comes to this character.

Obito had kakashi, minato and a lot of friends in the village but he decided that it would be a good idea to try to kill them when he released the 9 tails. He could have at least bother and ask kakashi why he killed rin but no. Obito is one of the lamest villains I have seen, his reason for being evil is stupid.

Obito thought of killing them as a necessary means to an end, he knows that with the infinite tsukoyomi he can revive them afterwards so he doesn't feel guilty taking their lives coz he can revive them anyway, you can say it is amoral, but Obito did it without malice. but the BETRAYAL Obito endured from Kakashi is beyond the suffering of any characters in the series. Naruto had a hard life sure but he wasn't betrayed, Itachi had a hard life, but he didn't betray Sasuke, every character has endured one suffering or another but the feeling of betrayal Obito endured when Kakashi killed Rin is beyond measure, Obito is the most betrayed character in the series.

I don't feel sympathetic for him at all. What i will feel sad is if he turns good out of the sudden too many antagonist in this series that falls for the TNJ by Naruto. His life was tough and he never got the chance to fulfill his needs. But Obito is doing the same thing to Naruto, so he is basically a piece of shit.

Obito had a hard life growing into Madara's hands. He fell through the ground, and was awakened by Madara, all casted up. He still had his fighting spirit, and his good attitude, but it broke down each passing day, hope was easily shoved out by Obito, he loved Rin, and wanted to protect her with his life. Then he figures out his best friend Kakashi and his lover Rin are being attacked by Mist Ninja, he goes to protect them, then sees his BEST FRIEND whom promised to protect Rin with his life; chidori right through her heart and kills her right in front of his eyes. He lost everything, trust, hope, and his own self. He lost the one he loved, and he wanted true peace, he said he was in "Hell" what Obito is trying to do is once he saw a close one die he learned the true meaning of life, the Narutoverse is full of winners and losers, Obito wants to make a world where true peace can be found, a fake Heaven you could call it. I understand Obito completely.

OT: I feel sorry for Obito, he was traumatized like Sasuke..

Well said, Obito is more of a victim than a villain, even more so a victim than Naruto, Naruto never felt betrayal, he did...

No obito is neither victim nor a villain(but in the last chapter he told off madara which earned +10 in my book), he is a result of a weak commitment.....what was his motto???? "people who don't follow the rules are scum but people who turn on their comrades are lower than scums"....well i didn't know comrades equaled 1 girl...and i know that you will say that kakashi turned on rin and i think their is a reason why he killed her and it will be revealed soon.....obito is more of a victim?????? lol you are funny...you know that naruto knows that kyuubi killed his parents right???? and what did he do with knowledge??? he could have easily bully kyuubi but he accepted him as a comrade......ya a girl <<<<<<Parents...

If you think about everything dealing with obito, it is truly a sad thing. How does one who wanted to protect his friends and his village by becoming hokage turn evil. This answer is simple and it is the reason that madara and obito want to instill the moon eye plan. The shinobi world will never be a world of peace and harmony since someone somewhere will always have evil inentions, thus the shinobi world is an evil world. People normally only look at rin death and think that this is the only reason why he wants to inact the moon eye plan, but the reasons are deeper than that. In his mind he believes that if they weren't born in this corrupt world, if ninjas never killed each other, if wars never existed that rin would still be alive. He has lost faith in humanity and intends on putting humanity in a state of infinite illusions.

Now bear mind that even he admits that he has fallen and he believes that by putting everyone in this illusion he can revive anyone. So all those who died in the war would come back to life inside infinite tsyukomi. Obito just like sasuke are victims of the ninja system and of the ninja worlds.

even kakashi admits that sasuke was a victim

yeah, I think him, nagato, and Kabuto him had the hardest childhood/life. If I was in his shoes, I'd probably have done the same thing.
