Itachi was manipulated. He tricked Itachi into thinking he was Madara and knowing that Itachi was on the side of good and going to attempt to keep the akatsuki away from Naruto he used Itachi to get closer to Sasuke. Itachi did everything Obito wanted him to do. Itachi's character was basically there to inadvertently carry about Obito's will. Madara was nothing more than someone who provided Obito with the primary resources to carry out his plans. I read that chapter a while ago and it's basically saying that Obito had a curse seal on his heart which he had Kakashi destroy. Madara claims he wanted Obito to do that; however, his explanation to why he wanted Obito to do it made no sense. After Obito had it removed and returned to the battle field damn near on his death bed he OVERPOWERED madaras will when Madara was trying to control him and became the ten tails jinchuriki. Madara pretty much made it clear in his conversation with Hashirama while battling the senju tree that he had every intention on become the 10 tails jinchruki not Obito. I think that chapter was just ass pull from Kishi realizing that he did a terrible job with Madara because he really is a bad character with no interesting motives as to why he's doing what he's doing. He's also a hypocrite and a sexist he is by far the worst Uchiha with the worst Uchiha with the worst personality character development and relies on everyone's power but his own. Obi solos Mad no difficulty by logic Mad by plot.

Obito wasn't interested in Sasuke until after Nagato died. Obito wanted Sasuke as Nagatos replacement. Itachi vs. Sasuke was bound to happen and Obito didn't influence it at all, it just played into his hands. Which didn't matter because Sasuke only cares about himself and wasn't interested in the slightest to become allies with Obito.

Kishi failed with Madara that's true but it doesn't change the fact that Obito was manipulated by Madara heavily. Madara set up the rin incident and after that Obito carried out Madaras will. Even if he never wanted to revive Madara, without him Obito would have never turned out the way he was.

Yes madara certainly had an influence on obito, but to call it manipulation is exaggeration.

I'm sure Obito has always had his eyes on Sasuke being that Sasuke was the last survivor of the clan and the little brother of the man who he manipulated(Itachi) while he was in the akatsuki. I remember part 1 after Naruto and Sasuke had there fight at the final valley where black Zetsu first appeared and had been watching the entire fight. Also, it was confirmed that zetzu's would spy within the leaf village and leak information back to Obtio. I'm pretty sure Obito has been watching Sasuke for most of his life and that after Itachi joined the akatsuki Obito planned to use the hatred in Sasuke's heart in order to manipulate Sasuke into aligning himself with him. Obito was not Manipulated by Madara. MADARA TRIED AND FAILED BIG TIME. ALOT of the things MADARA wanted OBITO to do OBITO did the opposite. KISHI is trying to convey MADARA to have been in control the entire time but it's not making ANY sense. The only thing that makes sense is MADARA staging the death of OBITOS lover.
