Itachi lived a pretty tough life and had to make some hard decisions.

I mean the guy pretty much got put into a lose lose situation.

He had to kill his clan to stop a coup and spare his brother or die with his clan and brother.

Then to make it worst Konoha played him by making out to be a villain for something they told him to do lol.

Old man 3rd knew he was joining akatsuki as a double agent.

But no one else knew. So pretty much everyone besides hiruzen thought itachi was a bad guy.

What do you guys view itachi as? Hero or villain?

Neither of both - He was pretty much thinking of everyone else rather then himself but either way coup d'etat would have happen anyways

Depends what angle you look at it from, I can't stomach what he did.

Itachi transcends the concepts of "hero" or "villain".

He transcends the very realms of troll/un-troll.

He had no choice in the massacre, but after that his actions were more villainous than heroic for the rest of his life, regardless of his intentions.

Neither, he was just a man who did what he thought was best no matter how morally twisted his actions may have been.

I would probably consider him under Chaotic Neutral.

Itachi was a fool. He fooled "himself" in the very end.

But if he felt that what he did was a necessary sacrifice, then it is what it is...so I guess he was a "hero", in his own right.
