Hype is something that is done very often by Kishimoto and received very strangely by fans.

Building up an unseen character's powers based on what is said about their ominous and mysterious skills. We got a lot of this with characters such as Hanzo, Hiruzen, Hashirama, Madara and other famed ninja of the past. Obviously you cannot make a factual list based upon just what the legends say (Gin & Kin were famed legends too, only to be outsmarted and swiftly defeated by Darui) but a lot of people do, and some people actually create a divide between what does count as valid hype and what doesn't.

Why do terms like Prime Hiruzen and healthy-Itachi exist when clearly no such characters exist in the manga and even if they did, it might not make any actual difference. Hell, even Orochimaru is basically a hype-driven character considering we've never even seen him bother fighting at his full power and yet we assume with his hands he's a god and put him in all our lists. 8 Gates Guy, again- we've never seen and there has been no evidence for so anything on it is pure speculation. The Sage of Six Paths is WALKING HYPE and yet he makes #1 on every single list.

(^proof that Kishi hype isn't to be trusted as it contradicts itself often from a writers perspective)

Prime Hiruzen has never been seen yet is used often whereas Prime Hanzo is something we actually have proof of. We know of his capabilities because of the actual events he accomplished in his life. See this is different to unseen hype characters because you could slap 'strongest ninja ever' onto anyone whereas you couldn't exaggerate defeated the middle-aged Sannin troop or leading a tiny country against the 5 great nations. You can't hype that, it's proof.

(^How strong was this thing in the end? 2 pages of god hype and under Obito's mental state- gone in a chapter)

How much do you factor in hype into your judgement of power levels? IMO we need hype, because not every single thing is going to be explained or seen by the end and so the debates will never end, whilst myths and stories can be overexaggerated for manga tension (minato etc) plain wrong (Gin/Kin) or just to give the fanboys a cooler character to enjoy (Itachi) I think it's definitely necessary and okay to factor into debates. Just don't be stupid with it.

So6p hype was confirmed. He defeated the juubi and created the moon on his death bed. These are actual feats.

Anyway, I don't really consider hype that much because actions speak louder than words to me. People like Hagoromo and Madara go at the top of my list because of the things they have done. I disregard people like "prime Hiruzen" because we have heard of no actual feats from him and he couldn't even show us a remnant of his prime power in his old state. I mean seriously! For a guy who was said to have all Konoha jutsus and said to be the strongest hokage, he was really a disappointment when he decided to throw mere shuriken at 10 tails Obito and then get obliterated. Hiruzen fans would have more respect from me if Hiruzen actually showed some of this prime power instead of resorting to kill himself just to beat two severely degraded puppets of the Senju bros and being missing in action against Obito (except for cutting down some tree branches).

Tsunade does, she has yet to die in battle and her hand to hand combat does seem to be unmatched, and her medical ninjutsu is unparrelled...don't mind Sakura, she doesn't count because she is suppose to surpass her, and also her poison prowess

Characters that have proved their Hype are Minato ,Itachi , Hashimara & the Sannin . (might be forgetting some )

Hiruzen hasn't & I judge by feats not Hype , I think it's retarded to use terms like Prime (character here) prime that , healthy this , no aids that , use what you see in the manga not the hype that hasn't been proven to be true .
