So I've been recently talking to many people around my work about what the "Ultimate Goal" of life is. Most I speak to are not religious in th slightest and so most of them say it's about furthering their own lifespan. Not in the sense of trying to discover immortality or anything (though some believe they will live to be 1000 with today's technology advancement) but by not sacrificing themselves for anything that doesn't further their own lives. I always say (usually joking) "There are worse things than death" when we talk about it, but some people truly don't think so.

So I'm curious about you all: Do you fear death? Why or why not? How do you feel about the subject?

I don't personally fear any sort of death, I believe in Jesus Christ (this is not a religious debate so I'm not going to entertain anyone who tries to bring that into play) so I know where I'm going, but also because honestly I really don't care about living that much. I don't have much in the way of aspirations other than to raise a family and then die.

I mean it's scary, but if you lived forever it would get stale. There is a due process for a reason, whatever it may be.

Instead about worrying about death, live life. >_0

We always assume it would get stale, but unless advancement of the world ever came to a screeching halt, I'm pretty sure you would never actually get bored. Unless someone imprisoned you in a tomb forever. Ohohoho that would be delightfully boring.

I fear it.

Ah, well that answers it then.

I can't wait to die.
It's dying that I fear. I don't want to feel how my body and brain react to major blood loss, oxygen deprivation, and whatnot.
Like read what the human body experiences when drowning. Scary stuff.

Ideally, I'd like for someone to blow my brains out. Instant death. I'm sure dying slowly isn't cool like TV shows and movies make it seem.

I don't want it (early), I don't fear it, but I shall embrace death if it comes my way.

I fear not living before I die more than dying. Die's inevitable, so there's no sense in worrying about it as much as worrying about when it'll happen. If I'm satisfied with my life by the time I die, I'm fine with that.

Well if you think about it even if you do drown or choke to death (via hanging, how fun would that be?) after you're dead. . .that's it haha. You're done, and you can never feel it again. I mean unless you go to whatever hell you believe in, I bet that'd be pretty painful too.

Embrace it? Would you hug death in his bony little self? You might knock him over.

Embracing death sounds so easy, but how do you truly embrace it? People say it all the time. Is embracing the same as just lying there and accepting? Or are you running into it's arms and crying from happiness that it's finally there?

And if you aren't satisfied? If you aren't worried about it before you know it, 60 years has passed and all you did was work a job you hated with a bunch of ungrateful kids and a fat wife.

It means I won't prevent my death from happening if I were to get something like cancer.

As an atheist and by extension existential nihilist I don't fear death. The only thing I want is when my time comes to go quick, and not suffer. Obviously I don't believe in any sort of afterlife, so I try to live my life the best I can since it's the only one I got.

im not scared of dying.
but i am scared of what will survive me and how it will affect those i care about and love.

most people fear death because it is unknown, but its just another chapter and adventure for the living to contemplate.

Ugh, cancer is so boring. You have to just watch as the afflicted just withers away from the treatments, or just collapses one day if they don't know it's there.

Well I hope you get another life, that would be fun. Especially if it would be like playing a video game over when you know where everything is at and how it works ha.
I will be.

So sure of yourself, hope you don't drop dead here in a few seconds. How ironic.

There will never be fear in what happens to people from me, because they'll be fine. People will always be fine. You can just hope that you did your best for the world and then you call it quits.

I know everyone wants something like that, and that's precisely why people believe in heaven or similar things, because they can't fathom the idea of simply not existing.

Haha how boring would not existing be? Literally can't even imagine the thought. Obviously. Just. . .nothing haha.

I believe in Jesus Christ as well.

I think of death as a beginning of your eternal life in heaven. (I will not shove religious teachings down your throats, I am not like that lmao)

Exactly. That's what people are afraid of, so convincing yourself there's a place where everything is jolly after you die is much easier I don't blame people for that, but it's not something I can bring myself to do.
