While I do not care for gender roles as long as they are not out of hand then they are fine. I personally like freedom to choose more.

Example:Only women can use the bathroom at night.

While a silly example it is pretty extreme IMO.

There are no male or female jobs, but I believe that a couple should help one another by each of them deciding on splitting their responsibilities fairly so neither one is overloaded.

Most women love being able to stay home to nurture the child/children. This is a nature bend in women

Most men desire respect and honor and "bringing the bacon home" provide both.

I used the word most because not all do. So 100% gender role, no. Everyone has different expectations from themselves or spouses.

(side not) However I do find it funny when an "independent" female is put off when the door isn't held for them.
That has nothing to do with gender roles. Guys would be mad too. It's a sign of courtesy.

Yes there are typical gender roles. Women raise children, and men work for family and protect it. I can't imagine myself raising children. Crying babies are making me mad. So women actually rule the world, because whoever gets to raise babies, rules the world.

I think that the roles happen out of necessity rather than capability. I say this being raised in a two income family. Both my mother and father worked. Looking back, when my mother was pregnant with my younger siblings, she wasn't able to work or "bring home the bacon" and during the times of after the birth, my mother had to nurse the newborn. Which is a full time job in itself. So the rest of the family had to pick up the slack. Nursing a newborn and working at the same time is impossible without help (daycare, friends, family). Household chores are just that, chores and are not exclusive to gender. Sometimes I thought when I was growing up that my parents had me just to do the chores (vacuuming, cleaning, taking out the trash, etc).

There are gender roles, because there are two different genders. Each has their own flaws and downsides.

There's no such thing as true equality between genders in this world. That's naive. Because if that's the case, then women, when looking for a man, would find attractive qualities such as insecurity, giggling, being a sissy, oiling their body, giving birth...NO..even in that stage when women seek for a partner, they look for a man that can take care of them, aka a stronger person than themselve.

Also men are physically stronger than women to begin with. So that leaves certain tasks to us. There's no denying it.

So all this talk about gender equality is naive. Girls are girls and men are men. That's the way the world works.
So yeah I kinda believe in them, but within reason. Old ways are too conservative, but automatically ofcourse there are some gender roles. For example few examples:

-Men are in control in bed - Women like that
-Women are expected to shave their body parts, men aren't- that's good for both sides

I imagine a perfect world where I will come home from work everyday to a beautiful house wife who knows her place is the kitchen baking me cup cakes to praise me on a hard days work. I will sit down on my chair, pick up today's paper and while smoking my pipe, say "what I wonderful life this is".

Well the last time I checked the year is 2012 not 1912

There isn't typical gender roles. With the restriction on choices/rights women had in the past, they been shown to do the samething as men do on a equal footing or even better in some areas men thought women couldn't surpass them in and they did.

Are gender roles even an issue any more? Sorry if I sound a tad bit ignorant, but going to university, it seems to me as if the opposite is true. Woman seem pushed to surpass men or at least rival them in almost all fields of the work force and are given incentives to do so. Maybe if you look in an older demographic, you find it, buuut...I don't know, I had thought we were kind of done with role defining based on gender.

Now, the employment and fair pay gap, however, is still a problem. But that's a different topic altogether.

While I agree that traditional gender roles are unnecessary, there are some things that women cannot do at the same level as men, biologically speaking.
