Can anyone really have a firm understanding of science? The world's constantly changing. There is always something to fill your mind with, knowledge is endless and what keeps most of us going. Just keep cruel notions to yourself(speaking about everyone), and the world would be more tolerable for athiests and thesiests.

Do you believe in god? Why?
I do. I Believe in God and Always will.

I Believe because my faith is pretty much the one thing that keeps me going each and every day. I Believe because when I pray I do get a sense of fulfillment and happiness. I believe because the Bible is something that makes me feel warm and guided. So yeah I was raised in a family who is religious and growing up, believing in God has been one of the greatest gifts in life for me. I don't exactly know how to explain why in a sense where I won't be jumped at or verbally charged at by someones contradicting opinion.

If you believe in God, that's Wonderful. If you don't; then that's your opinion. It shouldn't exactly matter whether people do or don't. I guess that's why most people get angry, it's always the same thing all the time 'You're just shoving your faith down my throat' or 'Why is the world the way it is' or even 'If there is a God, prove it. Give me the facts, tell me' BLAHBLAHBLAH! It's simple really, if you Believe; you believe. If you don't; then you don't. You don't believe so you shouldn't have to need proof because you've already made up your mind that you don't. There's no use in trying to argue over a matter of whose right in believing and who isn't in not believing because it'll turn into a never ending cycle of pointless repetition.

No, you came to that conclusion because you don't understand the problem. You are basically looking at the person you thought of as a conscious choice you made even though you factually didn't make the choice to pick that person. The point is that your consciousness is a steady stream of thoughts that arise without any conscious effort on your part to cause them.

Most of those thoughts reflect your perceptions within the real world, whether they are conscious or subconscious perceptions. Some of those thoughts are baited by your perceptions into your consciousness, based on the mind state that you are currently in and the direction it's going.

The parameters you are being given may not have been specific enough to discount personal bias when accounting for recent events, so it's perfectly possible that you thought of someone who was already on your mind at the time.

Let's change the parameters slightly, and I suggest for you to think of a city in the world you've never been to, any city, that you might want to visit.

Which city came to mind?

I instantly thought of Tokyo even though I do not wan't to go there.

I think this thread is a bit controversial hmm?

Overall what I believe in are honestly up to me to know. What the public should know about me is only what I let them know. thats just how i am.

Per definition? Faithless.

Haha.

Everyone should get to know that religion is bad.
It's about the faith and love in God. If you truly read the bible and go to church you should know.

Man is fated to believe in what he wills, not to make others believe that his way is right, nor to make others that their way is wrong. thats all I have to say.

but to simplify matters further, religion is overrated.

The fundamental fact is that if someone can't even interpret and understand science correctly, then how can they have a good understanding of their own religion?

Very true, very true, but you can see the answer on this forum as well :) (Which is quite sad)

You dont have to know everything to draw conclusions . The matter is that you have to deduce correct conclusions from what you already know. But I dont want to get into an other debate :p Of course its just how I see things.

Yes. I believe in God. What's a man without fate?

Per definition? Faithless.

Per definition, a man without fate would be fateless (which isn't a real word). A man who's faithless, would be a man without faith.

Fate and faith are two completely different words which have nothing to do with each other.

Faith is the act of believing in something without evidence or on bad evidence. Fate is the development of events within a persons life.

Everyone has a fate, even without faith.

Can anyone really have a firm understanding of science? The world's constantly changing. There is always something to fill your mind with, knowledge is endless and what keeps most of us going. Yes, people can have a firm understanding of science. The world itself is not constantly changing, neither is science as a whole. Some things in science change according to the evidence, but most of what science is doing right now is establishing new theories and evidence, which mostly add to the current understanding.

So in order to continue to have a firm understanding of science, you only need to keep up with the pace of new things once you've understood the old things. It's not a situation where what we knew yesterday was completely replaced by what we know today, which will completely be replaced by what we know tomorrow.

For the most part, what we know tomorrow will be added to what we know today and what we knew yesterday. The biggest difference between science and religion is that what we know tomorrow about religion, is the exact same as what we know today, and what we knew yesterday.

Fundamentally, nothing has changed in religion and nothing ever will. Anything that was not already included in the writings of the Bible or the Quran at the time they were created, is automatically cast aside and ignored completely as 'false prophecy.'

So the idea that someone has a better chance of being informed if they ignore science and follow religion, is a tragic one at best.

Essentially it is because I know of that city. Something popping into your mind just because you are asked to think of something does not disprove that there is freewill. When you think, things you are trying to think about will be in your mind. If you are talking about gaming then the thing in your mind will be game related and hopefully not something far away from it like throwing rocks(unless that is the game xd).

'Free will' is supposed to mean that you are the author of your thoughts, that everything which comes to mind was put there by you intentionally because you chose to put it there. You picked Tokyo because you were asked to think of a city and your subconscious mind offered that city up first, with no reasoning or rhyme behind it. That's why when you are asked why you picked Tokyo, and not some other city, you have no recollection of that choice being made.

If you don't have any control over what comes to mind at any given moment in time (which is what the research shows) then you really don't have free will.

Except for when what you believe hurts someone else, then other people has every right to make you believe that your way is wrong.

Drawing conclusions is like judging wouldn't you say? That's why its always nice to keep an open mind.XD A person's opinion will never have an effect on another, if they are not willing to listen and reflect or discuss on the issue. Sometimes we just go through the same discussions over that we become tired of wasting time with people who have closed minds.

No, fate is a predetermined set of events o_o
Whether or not fate exists is a matter of belief.

Sorry about writing faithless, by the way, I only just now saw that he wrote 'what's a man without fate?' and not 'what's a man without faith?'

Maybe to you, but the usage of the word has evolved beyond just a supernatural implication.

2. A final result or consequence; an outcome.

3. the end or final result

a : final outcome b : the expected result of normal development <prospective fate of embryonic cells> c : the circumstances that befall someone or something <did not know the fate of her former classmates>

I think you're straying too far from the point here.

The most important thing [a parent] can do for [their children] is to teach [them] how to live in the real world. And that means showing [them] how to think. Not what to think, but how.

Question authority. Be skeptical of claims. Ask for evidence. Apply good logic. Avoid bad logic. Analyze the results. Look for bias.

And doubt. Doubt doubt doubt. It’s one of the greatest strengths of the human mind, and perhaps the least used of all.

Too many people choose not to think. But our technology, our society, our impact is vast, and now, today, in this world, that choice is one we can no longer afford.

Nah, freewill is choosing what you will decide on, act upon, etc... Not what pops into your mind. IMO

How do you know that you chose what you did? How do you know that you aren't following a set path and that the thoughts that you had to choose what you chose weren't an illusion to keep you ignorant to the fact that maybe, just maybe aliens are controlling your every move? I know it sounds crazy, but think about it.xd

Hahahhaha!
