@Sveti
a) I never claimed to not be a Christian, I do actually have a background in the religion.
b) It's ridiculous to assume that I alone would represent any religious group, however I may reflect on the various views of a belief-system and that's not putting words into anybody's mouth, essentially that's my word based on my learned experiences.
c) I'm not trying to explain the whole of Christianity, merely making a point that what was in the past might not be appropriate in today's world, many Christians I've met agree with this and that's why I felt comfortable saying what I said.
I'm not telling anybody to take my word for anything, everyone needs to make their own research and conclusion.
Discussion alike this and hearing other people's views that may educate and broaden our own views can be important, to some, that's why this topic should stay open.
The manner in which you presented that particular point is what gave me reason to doubt your alignment with that specific belief system.
The rules of the old testament were not silly rules made by man, they served a purpose since everything was physically represented at that point in time. With the life of Jesus, those physical laws became spiritual, and that's why the physical laws are no longer necessary.
Yes, everyone can make their own choices, do their own research, and follow their own path; but I simply wish for you to be more careful when giving generalized assertions.
I have no issue with this particular thread being open in its current state, but I personally feel that views can only be broadened when all sides are accurately presented, explained, and defended. Asking other people questions in regards to their views only helps you further understand their view, but dismissing or trying to disprove their view(s) will only degrade the conversation and may turn it into a fight.
We don't have to accept every viewpoint as correct, but it's best to keep an open mind. No one should be forcing their beliefs on each other and no one should be representing something they do not have a great understanding of. Some beliefs are open to multiple interpretations and in such a case, each interpretation should be given a chance. Some parts of Christianity are open to interpretation, but the difference between the old testament and the new is not one of those.
I'm not trying to lecture to anyone or speak down on anyone. I simply wish for this to be an informed discussion if it is to continue. Mutual respect is all I ask of anyone. o.o
