It's debatable and saying "I dare say" or "probably" is his own opinion and not an actual fact since he did not know Itachi and could only go by what he heard.

Obviously it is true. Kishi is trying to hint at why Madara is the way he is.

Good point, writers do like to sometimes send messages through the characters dialogue in stories

Yeah it can be considered a little bias on Hashirama viewpoint

I personally think Hashirama and Madara parallel Naruto and Sasuke, and Hashirama actually cared about Madara.

I just can't see it. I think Hashirama is trying to rationalize a former friends evil actions in a way he himself can relate but if Madara loved his brother so much he wouldn't have done the things he has IMO. I think Madara is one of the few truly evil people in the manga that lacks a real motive for being evil other than power.

That's a very interesting theory, if that actually becomes the case then I'ma remember you for being the first person that brought that possibility to my attention. I doubt Kishi will do that though..

I'm gonna go with what might be considered a troll response and ask: who the hell cares?

This is most likely the worst, most ridiculous plot twist I have ever read. Ever. It's as if he's trying to create an excuse for the Uchiha to act like that. Not only that, but even more focus and depth about a dead clan instead of the smaller ones? To me, this just seems retarded, utterly pointless and quite frankly, it doesn't make any sense at all.

So now we have to try and understand all those conceited bastards trying to take over the world, or what? And why would we hear anything about Izuna from Madara now, when we know absolutely nothing about him, nor his relationship to Madara.

It's so IDIOTIC!
