Lmao yes they exist. Their genetic code is slightly different from ours (at least other mammals, obviously our genetic code and a fish’s genetic code are way different from each other), but animals have their own version of Down syndrome, retardation, social anxiety, PTSD, etc. Yes. Animals can be born or develop mental disabilities too. Not to mention when they get old, like dogs for example, they also can develop dementia and things that humans run the risk of developing as they get older.

Animals live in the moment, and their limbic system detects threat. They experience anxiety because of that. In rat studies they have repeatedly initiated trauma response (anxiety without ability to flee, fight, or freeze) and can note PTSD symptoms. We also can interfere with the dopaminergic system to create dependency in rats. That may or not generalize to other animals.

Lobsters can get depressed if they have a low societal placement

Serotonin was found to improve the lobster's mood much how it would humans

kinda funny how even a species like lobsters shares simiar neulogical, goes to show humans arent as different to other animals as some would suggest

the actual study for it
if anyone cares
