Do a lot of characters die in the war?

Just a question for the manga readers. I follow the anime so the war is just about to start. I'm hoping that a good amount of important characters die to make the war feel more desperate and real. Please don't name specific names I don't want to spoil it.

I know! No one has died that made it important enough. War hasn't been very exciting death wise. Wish something would happen. Just stay away from Kakashi and Garra.

Eh that's pretty disappointing. They should really kill off at least 1 or 2 semi-important characters for dramatic effect, Maybe even someone from the konoha 11.
