Dissecting Kimimaro's Bone Forest , how exactly does it work?

Does a multitude of bones sprout from his whole body and consumes it , then it grows and sprout separate individual bones which can be interconnected to create anything kimimaro can think of when in CM2 by fusing the bones?

Did something like this happen to Kimi's body while underwgorund?

-This can as a broken form of defense and surprise attacks against most ninja and jutsu especially with underground attacks and since he can travel trough them makes it epic as hell. I could see him gaining bone clones or using shadow clones if he grew.

I don't know about creating anything he can think of...but I believe he does have his body consumed by bones which then proceeds to grow and sprout everywhere.

Lol do you consider it a form of surprise attack though? I highly doubt there are many shinobi that can counter this. Surprise insta death seems a fitting tag xD
