Do Itachi,Kimimaro and Shin(Sai's brother) all have the same incurable illness?
They all seemed to have similar effect which caused them to cough out blood and it seemed to be a disease which kills you after a long period of time because Itachi had the disease for atleast 3 years and Shin had it from he was a child.

Kimmimaro died very quickly if you don't recall. He didn't even make it past the Sasuke retrieval arc, and he got the illness (or it started showing up) during when they killed the 4th kazekage.

I think it's mainly Tuberculoses or w/e you write it like. It's the most common illnes used in all the animes.

I'm thinking that a clever way to kill of people is to call it "sickness", but they don't give any clear details on the sickness, except that people spit out blood when they're "sick".
