[Discussion] Naruto's continuation as a whole

Wanted to talk about the continuation of Naruto and wanted to see if generally people were thinking about it in the same way I was. I think now is the perfect time to have this conversation as a whole (or community) because the sequel to Naruto is now approaching its new content, and there are many side things with Naruto happening this year as well; Live Action Movie, Anime, etc.

At this point you can pretty much tell that Boruto (series/idea) is just a cash cow rather than a series or an idea based on continuing the series because the author (or authors) feel that there's potential in the story for it to continue on for the next decade or so.

Most of what Kishimoto wrote has been milked to death post-700; The Boruto Movie gets a Manga in which they use to stall for what-ever reasons with his work, the Boruto Movie gets a video game DLC based on its content which pretty much sucks, the Boruto Movie after almost two years of releasing finally got English Dub :lol), Boruto Anime gets released with an original story, and the list goes on.

The 'Naruto' name itself is just being used to bring in revenue as the series ended a long time ago, they know that as time progresses, the Naruto name will just wither away if they don't start milking it somehow for what's it's worth; Stage plays, live action films, etc.

So from that standpoint there's nothing noteworthy about Naruto now. It's not a series ready to surprise us with great storytelling (yet to be seen for years now), and the whole ninja concept does not even stay true to its roots considering that they installed the alien concept among other things.

So the series is bound to evolve into something else, like how Naruto isn't generally the same Manga it once was fifteen years ago.

In my opinion 'Boruto' can only continue on for maybe five years at maximum before it either gets cancelled or they finish the story they are trying to tell with it. But I can promise you that what-ever Boruto content gets released in the next decade or so will be used to milk 'Boruto' into; stage plays, live action films, and possibly another Movie (or even side stories/Gaidens/novels) so that they can generate revenue with Boruto's name after they finish killing Naruto's dead horse.

Pretty much given all they care about is generating money, even the author moved on. The only reason why its continuing is because the publisher wants more Naruto content to make more money because they obviously see the market value is high for this generation of consumers because we all grew with Naruto.

I wanted to talk about a point I discussed above on why they are trying to milk Naruto for what's its worth now. I think we can all objectively see that if Naruto had died down in Chapter 700, with absolutely no content or anything released about the series since then, we might have been gone by now. Maybe not entirely, but for sure after three years we probably would have moved on from Naruto in our thoughts (We would still remember it, but it would not be an everyday thing). Most of the our discussions would of died now (much like how the threads today really consistent of nothing significant despite a sequel being in play - Although to be fair the content now has been mostly rehashed), and the community (like now) would of have reduced even more.

I frequent on more than one 'naruto' forum and I can tell you that NarutoBase.net is not the only anime-forum site losing its community in the Naruto section after three years since the ending. So from that standing I based my opinion on them seeing this too, that in the next 10 years, 20, 30, 40, and so on, Naruto's comeback probably would not have generated the same amount of publicity.

Even now despite it's flaws the continuation of Naruto is not even as popular as it once was, selling 1/3rd of what it used to, and not even ranking in the top five in Shueshia's most popular list (ranked 8 -- Again I know, it's rehashed content but still my point stands).

To wrap this up instead of repeating what I have said already, I want to hear your genuine thoughts about the series continuation as a whole: Not about the characters or stories, but the future of Naruto and why you think they are trying to continue it.

Do you view it the same way, or do you have a different opinion?

I actually don't mind the continuation, but it's mostly because I don't care about the series as much as I used to. I mean, I like the Naruto world and I don't mind seeing expansions to it, so I'm sticking around to see how Boruto manga goes. However, if it turns out to be bad, I'll just drop it and I won't feel disappointed (since I'm not expecting much).

I've only been truly emotionally invested in Naruto back when I just started it, only to move on to other manga, but it's still important for me as my gateway manga and no milking will take that away. Just like with any other work of fiction I like, I never feel compelled to read/watch/play every sequel and spin-off if I don't feel like it - instead I stick to parts I enjoy.

I would've preferred Naruto's and Sasuke's story after VoTE 2 instead of jumping directly to the next generation. That would've given all the characters much needed character development plus they could've explored the romantic pairings in detail. Instead we got the exact opposite with everyone grown up and paired with characters on a whim mostly. True people lost interest in Naruto after VoTE 2 but if it were my choice then this is the route I'd have preferred instead of directly jumping onto the next generation.

I mean honestly i don't mind the sequel, really we just have to see how it goes, and I beleive they are gonna need a very strong start in order to really reel people in, they knew that and thats why they hinted at naruto being dead, whatever they do next has to be good. I'll give it a chance because i've been watching naruto and reading the manga since i was 12, I'm 21 now, I really grew with it. I do see potential for the series, but the manga storytelling as well as the anime adaptioncan't be half assed. (im not seeing much hope for the anime because sp half asses all the manga content. and uses months worth of fillers)

They still have a chance to redeem themselves, limit next gen enemies to Kage rank ninja that are against the system and expose the flaws of post-Naruto regime. If they want to go the Otsutsuki root, go in depth about Shinju origins and Otsutsuki clan.

Imo the best thing to do would be to go the prequel route and do mini-series on legendary characters like Hiruzen, legendary swordsmen, rise of Akatsuki and Hagoromo's era. Legit canon stories on these characters would be just as interesting as the main story.

I know that they made the novels , but the novels are individuals stories , I wish to see Naruto with a main plot , a plot that isn't revolving about a yaoi relationship between Naruto and Sasuke , a plot where Konoha 11 having screen-time , a plot with less holes and ass pulls

I agree that would be cool, I was hoping kishi would write script for stuff like that in the anime post series.

yeah I agree , a series in Hogoromo's era would be very interesting , you would see the The emergence of tribes like the Uchiha and the Kaguya clans and the Senju and the Uzumaki clans

and we would know how the Hyuga have came to earth from the moon and etc , there are many interesting tales to tale in Hogoromo's era

It's good to see Naruto as a hokage more . All we saw about him is in ninja gaiden and the movie . I'd like to see him go all out against Kawaki or any other enemy . Not just that but Sasuke as Boruto's master we barely saw him with Boruto that Much .

In addition the new generation characters are dope! Shinki Inojin Chocho Sarada Mitsuki they all have potential .

I rather have more content in the naruto world than ending it . Because when it ends i'll be very very sad . I honestly can't wait for the new content next month .

Plus indra u can't judge the quality of the boruto manga/anime now . In the manga they were just rehashing the movie . The anime hasn't even started yet . Judge it after having both

If they are able to milk it - it means it's still able to provide it and it's target are either the new batch of readers or the ones who still want to read something about it.

Some individual untold stories from older Naruto characters like can be interesting- but I don't think we are going to get anything about Hiruzen or other such characters any time soon. Main cause will be Kishi himself being burned out on Naruto and not willing to work directly on the project at the time and certainly not at the old pace. Who knows after a few years break he may be revisit some of them and make some short story with a few chapters or one long chapter. He has earned that break or retirement. As an annoyed reader of like 4+ interesting mangas where the author went on hiatus eternally /lost the inspiration/will/plot/all-three and never continued since, I can appreciate that at least he finished it on his part.

Exactly this. Them jumping years and years ahead only made me feel more empty than craving for more.

Yeah.This is one of the few things I like about DB Super. It mostly focuses on Goku and Vegeta with more powerful characters introduced which makes it somewhat enjoyable . I don't care much for Gohan Goten or Trunks just like Bolt and Salad in this series. No one takes the place of the protagonists and lives up to the previous standards
