I say orochimaru, because he know more jutsus than probably every ninja in history, has edo tensei, great sword skills, can use genjutsu very well (jiraiyas weakness) and is very good at getting out of nearly every situation.

Jiraiya will win in my opinion, but barely. The reason? Well, for starters Oro has not been shown to have an attack that could counter the rasengan which J-man uses. While its true this may seem to be a small factor, in actuality its not. Think about it. Sasuke had his chidori to counter Naruto's rasengan st every turn, but in the absence of a similar attack the rasengan is a very difficult move, especially for someone who is able to move fast. The enhancement in speed comes with sage mode of course.

While snakes>toads, Gamabunta was shown to hold his own fairly well against Manda and Oro during the revival of Tsunade arc. Also, Jiraiya's toad oil that he releases from his mouth is a perfect counter to Oro's ability to stretch himself in his typical snake like fashion. The oil slows him down, and while Pain was able to use foam against this, none of the snakes have been shown to release foam.

The mouth/belly/swamp of the underworld will be highly useful against all lesser summons and should take care of them. The 2 best chances for Orochimaru under the circumstances are either:
1. The sword of kusanagi.
2. Impure World resurrection.
Seeing as how they were team mates, its hard to believe that Jiraiya would be unaware that Oro possesed item no 1, and as knowledge is winning half the battle, this leaves item number 2. IWR may very well prove to be J man's achilles heel, but this would of course depend on who Oro decides to summon. Judging from the fight with the 3rd hokage, when its safe to assume Oro gave everything he had, he managed 2 summons(the 3rd failed) so unlike Kabuto, he is probably not capable of summoning large numbers of IWR'd bodies simultaneously. Even if he does manage to summon 2 or 3, Jiraiya can summon the 2 elder toads(no such snake equivalent has been shown) to hold them off while he uses either the 8 trigrams sealing jutsu or the toad song genjutsu to incapicitate them.

Therefore, Jiraiya wins.

i totally agree...in fact he uses more than the normal rasengan...he was shown,while in sage mode, using a colossal rasengan without being fatigued at all

Its called gargantuan rasengan, and thanks. I have'nt heard any convincing arguments from Oro's side so i guess its safe to assume Jiraiya has this, then.

Jiraiya's summons are way better than oro's summons
I would like to believe that after all the sealing jutsu's that we've seen from jiraiya that he would at least be able to seal the edo's after defeating them, but that's wishful thinking.
If orochimaru has edo's jiraiya will probably go down even in sage mode depending on who and how much edo's appear.

You failed to mention that Oro could also using sealing and genjutsu as shown too. Also, these physical attacks would only do lil damage, as Granny Hokages punches did lil to no damage to orochimaru. And how does it show that Jman was stronger than oro, since he was unable to stop Oro from leaving??? Oro has always been a step ahead of Jman as it has been stated before in the manga/anime by both the 3rd, Oro and Jman himself (if I remember correctly). We might as well take into account that Oro has more summons (snakes) if needed, while Jman has 6 or 8

I vote "Not Sure." Jiraiya and Orochimaru skills have improved over the course of the Naruto Series. Both are Sannin, and could be seen as genuises in their own way. Sage Mode and Orochimaru's Eight Branch Technique could be seen as powerful techniques but...IDK.... Their battle style are a little different, so saying that Jiraiya could beat Orochimaru or vise versa is someone's own opinion or whatever. Orochimaru Edo Tensei might win him the battle but looking at reality; he would have to prepare for the fight to use the Jutsu itself. That would make the fight unequall. I understand that Jiraiya has support when he is in Sage Mode but the technique itself requires them because his lack in Sage Chakra training.

And you still have to keep in mind that we still haven't seen the true pontential of all the Sannin.

Oro doesnt spam edo tensei to win battles, but to get an emotional rise out his opponents, to mind **** them basically. People ones personality and character also takes impart into winning a fight.

First off, was the fact that Jiraiya was unable to get Orochimaru to stay in the village, i can't remember if they fought but if they did, jiraiya lost as Oro still left. This would suggest Jiraiya is stronger.

Anyway,this would be a close battle since they are close to being equals,and neither person could kill each other off(when they met),but i'm picking orochimaru because he was "the chosen child".It was said that he had a talent that only came in a every few decades,he rivaled hiruzen when it came to ninjutsu,and if he stayed on the right path he would have becomed the fourth hokage.He defeated two kages,created his own village, which was stronger than one of the five big villages,and he pretty much experimented on every major character.Even the cunning madara was surprised about how much orochimaru knew,and finally he managed to survive being hunted from both konoha and akatsuki.All this often gets negleted because he got owned by itachi.


When it comes to the actual battle,I would say that we didn't see much of orochimaru's abilities,due to his handicap,but what we saw was impressive.He can pretty much tank everything jiraya throws at him,and this was proven when all he got was an cracked face when tsunade landed one of her killer punch,also the time where he toyed with the fourth tailed kyuubi.
Edo tensei is one of the most overpowered techs in naruto,and orochimaru has shown he can keep strong will'd people like harishima and tobirama under his control.Imagine folks like muu and the 2nd mizukage being summon,hard to seal what you can't see.
His sword can nearly pierce everything, and manda was showned to be stronger than gamabunta.Ma and Pa will give anyone trouble, but we have yet to see what oro's hydra is capable of,which was said to be a dragon god compared to manda.
