Appearance

When he first arrives at the Joestar Estate, Dio is seen wearing typical formal boy's attire from that era; a blue coat, white dress shirt, a tie, suspenders, breeches, and a pair of striped socks. He has blond hair and a handsome face. He also has 3 moles on the lobule of his left ear.

Aside from replacing his coat with a vest, Dio's attire hasn't had much change. However, his overall physique and height have increased significantly. During the events where Jonathan sets out to find the antidote for his father's illness, Dio dons a top hat and a new, flamboyant-looking cloak that has feathers jutting out of the shoulders.

Dio undergoes drastic physical changes upon using the Stone Mask to transform himself into a Jinchuriki. His formerly-clean hair becomes messy and unkempt, his eyes become sharper and adopt a darker outline, and he develops fangs. His clothing has changed quite a bit as well after his first battle with Jonathan; most noticeable is the scarf around his neck. He wears an ornate dual-colored shirt and matching breeches, a large pair of boots, vambraces, and two suspenders attached to a band around his waist.

Upon becoming DIO, DIO has expanded on his outfit, donning a jacket with a tight tank-top underneath, as well as chaps with an exposed crotch. His face is now in full-view, and on his head is a heart-shaped circlet to match his knee guards. In most depictions of him, DIO's outfit is tinted orange or yellow.

He also wears a necklace covering his neck scar and heart motifs above his feet and on his pant legs. When pursuing the other Jinchuriki, DIO donned a cloak.

Dio is consistently manipulative and violently domineering, and has repeatedly shown a lack of conscience and empathy.

Dio's most recognizable characteristics are his boundless ambition and his love of power. Abused by his father and having lived in the most miserable living conditions, Dio set for himself the goal of becoming the richest, then the most powerful being on earth. To do so, Dio used anything or anyone that he could use to further his goals, disregarding any kind of morality who would restrain the range of actions available to him. Using either manipulation and seduction, or plain violence, Dio constantly sought to become more and more powerful. Dio enjoys being in a position of power and has repeatedly stated how great he felt being in a dominating position. On the contrary, Dio never tolerated that someone could stand up to him or equal him in power, and was several times enraged and deeply disturbed at the thought.

After gaining the Six Paths power, DIO(as he begins to call himself), becomes much more calm and appears to mature a bit, recognizing valor in others and even showing respect for his minions and discussing various philosophies with them. However, he has become an even bigger megalomaniac and views himself as all-powerful. DIO expresses the belief that the purpose of every living creature is to find peace of mind as they lived, describing it as achieving "heaven on earth." After taking a piece of the each of the Tailed Beasts and housing them within himself, DIO has grown to view his destiny as being intertwined with those of other Jinchuriki and Tailed Beasts. This "connection" DIO feels with the other Jinchuriki greatly unnerves him. Thus, he views his newfound goal to be the complete eradication of all other Jinchuriki and the assimilation of the rest of the Tailed Beasts within himself, the last obstacles in his path to achieving his heaven on earth.​

Tailed Beast

As the Jinchuriki of Kurama, DIO has an enormous chakra supply compared to even other Bijuu and Jinchuriki. Due to his massive chakra pools, DIO gains an additional 1000 chakra, overriding his Uzumaki chakra gain. DIO and Kurama are unique in that they have alternative Incomplete/Complete Modes that covers DIO in an orange chakra and black seals when incomplete and in complete form it changes into an orange Kyuubi with even more black seals, respectively deemed Nine Tailed Chakra Mode and Tailed Beast Mode. DIO's unique sealing methods allows him to completely sudue the Bijuu within him, only regaining full consciousness should be allow it. Otherwise, they only retain enough consciousness to break him out of Genjutsu should the need come for it. DIO possesses completely mastery over the Wind and Fire elements without the use of handseals in the Tailed Beast Mode, the ability to sense the "evil" intent in people when in all chakra modes (no matter how good the opponent is disguised or hid his chakra, over incredible large distances, sensing beings entire countries away, i.e., up to 5 landmarks away ), and the ability to shape the chakra around him of all chakra modes to create for example countless of chakra arms that can extend very far, for a variety of techniques, mainly Rasengan variations or create a large arm that can be used to throw heavy boulders.



Six Paths Sage Mode

On top of the great power gained from Kurama, DIO was further gifted with the power of Six Paths Senjutsu, stemming from his connection with all nine of the Bijuu as well as the being given chakra from Hagoromo Otsutsuki. Unlike with Obito and Madara who actually absorbed and sealed the Jubi into them, DIO doesn't possess the Jubi's chakra. Instead he has the individual segments of each of the nine bijuu and the yang half of Hagoromo's chakra. As a result of having all nine of the Bijuu he was able to use all of their abilities; the sand and magnetism of the Shukaku, Lava from Son Goku, and Boil Release from Kokuo. With his half of Hagoromo's chakra, he became able to use the Truth-Seeking Orbs and his sensory abilities became even greater, allowing him to sense Madara's Limbo and gains immense power.


Fuuinjutsu

DIO’s body is adorned by several seals to aid him in battle.

Description: The user will have four seals on their body (must be stated in the biography) with the Kanji for “Curse” that can be passively activated (instant but still counts as a move) whenever the opponent uses a technique. The seal will will release an intangible barrier that expands outwards in all directions. The barrier instantly reaches long-range in every direction and serves to absorb chakra from the given technique in order to weaken it by a quarter . The amount of chakra absorbed is proportional to the power of the technique but one thing that remains the same is that the remaining technique will fall to three-quarters it's original power i.e. a 120 damage technique would fall to 90 damage (Forbidden Rank). The barrier is destroyed soon after coming into contact with the technique if it exceeds a traditional S-Rank in power but not before it leeches a quarter of it’s chakra in order to weaken it by the same degree. The user can instead activate two barriers rather than one to reduce the targeted technique to half it’s original power rather than a quarter. This will count as two of the user’s three moves per turn. This means this technique does not counter other jutsu in itself but rather aids the user in countering more powerful techniques by weakening them. Due to the barrier’s intangibility, it will can work on solid techniques as well as liquids, gases and energy-based techniques. It will also only shatter against non-physical techniques due to their ability to clash with the intangible barrier. The reason this seal needs to be passively activated (still counts as a move) is so the user can use a technique in the same-timeframe to counter the opponent's weakened jutsu. This technique can be used thrice per battle, be it three usages of the single version, three usages of the double version or any variation/combination of the two.

Description: The user will have a seal on their body that can be activated whenever they use a technique that sends chakra through or into the ground. Upon activation, the seal will pump extra chakra into the technique and thereby extend it’s range by one degree (e.g. short-range techniques will be able to reach mid-range and mid-range techniques will be able to reach long-range). The chakra used for this technique will be added to the cost of the jutsu that preceded this. This technique counts as a move but occurs in the same timeframe as the technique it's applied to.

(Fuuin: Hakari no Doragon) — Sealing Technique: Scales of the Dragon

Description: The user has a seal on their body with the Kanji for "Impervious" that automatically activates upon the user being struck with a Taijutsu attack. A barrier instantly forms over the user (before the user can be harmed) and mitigates the damage dealt by the strike and any subsequent strikes encompassed in the technique or freeform combo. Whether a Taijutsu technique deals one single hit or a multitude of them, each activation of this seal will defend one single Taijutsu attack/combo, be it freeform or a technique. The effect of the barrier is to reduce rather than eliminate the damage the user takes from being struck physically by the opponent so it will only halve the damage of any Taijutsu technique no matter how powerful (e.g. S-Ranks will fall to 40 damage, D-Ranks will fall to 10 damage). Due to this seal only reducing damage rather protecting the user completely, it acts as a failsafe more than anything else in case the user is caught unawares by someone much faster than them. The user’s body will sustain the remaining damage after the barrier halves it’s power.

(Fūinjutsu: Maiyā no bando) - Sealing Arts: Mayer s Band

Description: This seal, Mayer's Band, was created by an Uzumaki prior to their village's destruction. The jutsu's purpose revolves around the ability to identify and seal foreign energy produced by the user's enemies. The seal itself is placed onto a wrist band and it is a kanji line shaped like a pentagon with open circles placed at every point of the shape. When foreign energy enters short range of the user, the circles on the wristband emit a bright colorful light signifying to the user that an energy different from the energies known to them has broken their perimeter. The sealing band cannot inform the user about the type of energy being used, but it can and does tell the difference between the various energies it comes across, and thus repeats the same color glows corresponding with that energy when met again. Once the energy is close enough the seal will release a special energy absorbing barrier around the user protecting them for that one attack before sealing the foreign energy into the wristband protecting the user. The jutsu is quite helpful for shinobi who don't have any energy sensing abilities, and its sealing effect only lasts a limited time. After sealing its maximum amount of energy the band will only work as an energy identifier for the user, but it will no longer be able to seal energy.

(Fuuinjutsu: Goto) - Sealing Arts: Burglary

Description: The user will release an jutsu from their body or from away their body, while lacing the jutsu with a unique seal. The seal has a property of absorbing characteristics of an opponents jutsu when clashing against the users jutsu. This will weaken the opponent's jutsu by 20 CP and the 20 CP will be transferred to the users technique. However, this doesn't just simply improve in power, rather it steals byproducts that relate to the element and combines it with the users technique. E.g. if the seal absorbs properties of fire, specifically it will absorb either its heat, ash, or gas (this is for the user to decide) and whatever is chosen will coincide in aiding the users jutsu, so this can include heating up an earth or water jutsu, inflaming a fire jutsu to larger size, or make a lightning jutsu violently explode. This works logically with just about any elemental jutsu element, KG and CE included. Lastly, to reiterate, even when the users technique is up by 20 damage, this doesn't mean they will not still clash with the opponents technique, but the clash will be weakened (from the opponent's perspective) and this also follows elemental strength and weakness. In a lot of cases, this can also enhance the size of the jutsu, especially when two of the same elements clash. The process of attaching the seal is performing jutsus from the body through a seal (either on the tongue, or limbs) or slamming their hands on the ground and channeling seal simultaneously with the jutsu. Does not work with techniques that come out of thin air.

Note: Can only be taught by Joker. This does not work with water (unless absorbing the water jutsu of the opponent) mainly so it doesn't clash with Noni's Davy's Devilish Devouring technique. Can only work with S-Rank jutsus and can only absorb S-Rank and below jutsus. Can only be used three times. Can not be used in consecutive turns. Cannot be stacked with infusions.

DIO was born in the Land of Fire as Dio Brando, the son of a poor thief named Dario who constantly abused both Dio's mother and Dio himself. When Dio was a baby, Dario encountered the Joestars, a wealthy family from a high class village north of the village Dio was born in. Dario encountered the Joestars after their carriage had overturned off the side of a steep cliff during a severe thunderstorm. Intending to rob the corpses of the Joestars, Dario was instead met George, the patriarch of the Joestars, who had survived the accident. George began to profusely thank Dario, believing the scoundrel to be saving himself. Finding his wife deceased, George pleaded with Dario to help him and his infant son to a nearby hospital, promising to use his considerable resources repay Dario for his kindness. His greed getting the better of him, Dario agreed and saved the life of George and his son, Jonathan.

[TD="colspan: 8"] Over the course of the next fourteen years, Dio spent his youth in the slums of the Land of Fire. Enduring endless abuse at the hands of Dario, the likes of which resulted in the death of Dio's mother, Dio gained a strong sense of ambition. Becoming determined to gain power, respect, and riches, Dio poisoned his own father. On his deathbed, Dario revealed to Dio that the Joestar family still owed him the favor from that faithful night, and directed Dio to the information given to him by George. Upon Dario's passing, Dio concocted his plan to achieve fame and riches, swearing on his father's grave before spitting on it that he would indeed gain the power his father desired for him not for Dario's sake, but for the sake of Dio's own boundless ambition.

The following week, Dio arrived to the Joestar estate in the north of the Land of Fire. Approaching Jonathan, the son of George, Dio greeted the youth by viciously kicking his dog. Getting ready to fight, the duo were interrupted by George's arrival. Dio lied about being scared of Jonathan's dog, claiming he attacked it through fear. Settling the dispute, George took Dio in, raising he and Jonathan as brothers to become true gentlemen. Posing as a heir to Jonathan's estate, Dio worked in secret to ruin Jonathan's life, becoming more and more antagonistic and sinister as the two grew up together.

Upon reaching the end of their adolescence, Dio and Jonathan's bitter conflict became much more subtle, with the duo pretending to be brothers as an outwards appearance. With Jonathan holding a secret apprehension and wariness, Dio held utter resentment and bitterness. Having learned various forms of Ninjutsu through the Joestar estate, Dio began his plan to kill both Jonathan and George to gain all of George's inheritance for his own. The youth began to slip George various poisons under the guise of giving him medicines. Catching onto Dio's plot, Jonathan confronted Dio and the two engaged in a brutal fight within the Joestar manor.

Despite initially overpowering Jonathan with his ruthlessness, Dio found himself on the receiving end of a severe beating as JoJo found motivation in the terrible things Dio had inflicted upon him over the course of their adolescence. Dio's blood spilled from his mouth and onto a Stone Mask mounted in the main hallway of the Joestar manor. An ancient relic, the mask held a dark secret. Several spines emerged from its surface and it latched itself onto Dio's face. It was then they discovered that the Mask was imbued with not only a powerful Fuuinjutsu, but one that housed the Nine-Tailed Fox demon itself.

The Mask's seal activated once it latched onto Dio. Having been sealed into the mask long ago, the Nine-Tails was released and sealed into Dio's body with the mask's Fuuinjutsu forming a new lock on Dio's body. This lock was designed to test the user's will; should the user's will be too weak, the seal would fail, the process of converting he struck with the mask failing to render them a Jinchuriki and instead destroying them from the inside out with the fox re-sealed within the Stone Mask. However, Dio's ambition proved to be more than a match for the seal, his willpower subduing the Fox under the seal almost completely. Reinvigorated by the portion of the Fox's portion leaking into his own chakra system, Dio overwhelmed those who came to arrest him for George's murder, the Jinchuriki escaping the manor and feeling into the night.

Dio spent the next ten years mastering the powers of the Nine-Tailed Fox and achieving the ability of Sage Mode, all for the sake of destroying Jonathan and gaining ultimate power and fame. With this newfound power, Dio traveled around the world and gained new skills in secret, remaining in the shadows. Dio's attention eventually turned to the other Jinchuriki, spending an extensive amount of time hunting them all down. Reasoning that he was the only one who deserved the power of the Tailed Beasts, as well as fearing any competition from them, Dio relentlessly pursued the Jinchuriki and defeated them one by one, stealing a portion of their Tailed Beasts' chakra each time through the very seal that had latched Kurama to himself. Initially, Dio found that he could not access the stolen chakra, much to his dismay, but upon stealing a portion of each Bijuu, he found a new dimension of power had awakened in his body. Gaining access to the Six Paths chakra as well as the Yang half of Hagoromo's chakra upon gaining each Bijuu's power, Dio dubbed himself as DIO, the all-powerful. With his newfound power at his disposal, DIO has set back out into the world, aiming to find and finish the other Jinchuriki once and for all to achieve his "heaven on earth."
