Madara's generation along with Hashirama and company are so much stronger then the curreng generation.
Madara owned the current Kage's like small babies, so why the big difference in power?

A small theory i have is that with every generation everyone gets weaker. Beacause the futher you get from hagoromo's DNA (Chakra source) the weaker you get.

It's because the older generation grew up in warring periods as opposed to the current generation growing up in a time of "peace". Though the current generation is pretty strong for a bunch of 16 and 17 year old as compared to the grown men of the past eras. Look at Naruto and Sasuke, these two are some of the strongest history has ever seen and they're keeping up with the big shots at only 17. Pretty impressive if you ask me

No, every generation is stronger than the last. But I don't think it literally applies to everyone, only a select few are to replace the geniuses of the previous generation. Notice I say replace, because it's small difference in power.

For example, if people stayed dead.

Hashirama=Naruto

Madara=Sasuke

Orochimaru=Kabuto

Tsunade=Sakura

Tobirama=Hiruzen

Jiraiya=Minato

Minato=Itachi

(If Itachi did not have that illness, didn't die, he would currently be just above alive Minato. If he lived to see Hiruzen's age, he'd surpass him. This only because Minato died so young)

I agree with this ^ Hashi and Maddy grew up in a world at constant war with each other, while the current generation has lived in relative peace. But yeah even still you have people like Naruto and Sasuke who can still hold their own against these legends that mainly haven't achieved this level of power till the end or after their lifespan had reached its end.

Sasuke and Naruto are only 17. So that's something.

Hashirama/Madara was just to strong being decendents of the sage and his sons. Naruto and Sasuke will surpass them being decendents as well. Just look how strong they are now at there young age. So I believe the generations are actually getting stronger. The third was stronger than Tobirama after all in his prime and Minato would have gotten so much stronger if he lived.

You are correct, it's not just a theory.

As genes pass through the generations, their strength gradually weakens; there are many terms but the one that I can think of from the top of my head is DNA degeneration.

It's something I've seen in my family alone, a genetic trait on my dad's side of the family of longevity and higher than average strength but it has very slightly become less prominent through what I've known of four generations.

@SimbaPride; when characters in the series have said they surpass previous generations, they mean in morals and not power.

Naruto's generation will surpass madara and hashi's generation for sure they are still young. I doubt 17 years old hasi and madara are as strong as 17 years old naruto and sasuke.

Hashirama and Madara's generation isn't stronger... they alone simply outclass any other shinobi in raw power.
Btw, the current generation includes:

- Naruto - who will surpass Hashirama.
- Sasuke - who will surpass Madara.

So i guess the rule still applies.

We don't know if hashi's and madara's generation were stronger or weaker then the current. Are the first kages weaker than the current gokage? Who knows. Saying Madara and hashirama = a entire generation of people are rediculous.Since, hashi and madara represent the younger and older sons, another question to ask is who is stronger, hashi and madara or the younger/older son?


-If your theory about getting weaker chakra every generation is generally true, then the strongest wouldnot be Hogoromo, but his mom since she at the fruit.-Considering that only the sage could tame the juubi, and madara- the represenation of the older son (tamed/captured- a practically complete juubi) you could argue that madara is stronger than his older itiration ( the older brother)
