Difference between Madara and Itachi: Madara's path.

Many people say Itachi is a counter example to the Curse of Hatred. But he didn't have it the worst. So let's compare him to Madara.

Itachi sacrificed a lot. That is true. He killed his whole clan and parents. Madara lost his family too. But there is one very important difference: Itachi was able to protect Sasuke whereas Madara was unable to protect Izuna.

Itachi while losing so much, still had a sliver of hope left.

Madara lost everything. The only thing he held on to so dearly slipped away from him.



Conclusion: Madara had it worse and hence walked down the path of darkness.

if Itachi was in front of Sasuke for every single fight he was in, Sasuke would have never been injured or have come close.

Correct. But, they're Uchihas.
And what're Uchihas? Sensitive. as Tobirama said. Itachi chose to walk the right path, and didn't turn outright evil. Madara let the darkness consume him and fell victim to it. As Madara gained MS, he became more darker, and with EMS, ****tons more.
Madara only had it harder, because not only did he lose his family, but also couldn't save his brother, whereas Itachi could, and there was a sliver of hope for him.
If Izuna weren't killed by Tobirama, Madara would definitely not go batshit evil, as he is now.

So yes, the death of Izuna affected Madara far more than how Itachi was affected, it was the final nail in the coffin that driven him insane.

Madara specifically clarified that this isn't about Izuna and that he would change his plan/view no matter what (when he was fighting Tobirama).

Madara is his own man and when the Uchiha's turned their back on him, he stopped caring for them.
his mind was set on another goal and having his family/brother return won't change a thing.

having no one/brother (losing them in battle/understandable/normal/predictable circumstances) is still not as terrible as being forced to take their life's yourself (for the greater good). even if Itachi's brother was still alive, he did the unthinkable and kept it all in/didn't expect praise or glory.
