Animation quality. 1999 has fillers and the only good thing about the older version is that it has the backstory with kite/Gon. Also it has a kick-ass opening for the yorknew city arc. Other than that the 2011 version stomps and I recommend that over the earlier one.

Just watch the 2011 version on crunchyroll. The 1999 isn't THAT great but you can easily google it.

I like 1999 version better because of animation, but 2011 is better at everything else. Not by a lot, though.

1999 version is more daring with better VA, i prefer the 1999 version, the only reason why i watched the 2011 version is because i want to see the Chimera ant arc animated.
