First before starting this thread I would like to make one thing clear - it stands on the basis that ERA before SO6P was wrapped in eternal genjutsu. I have already made a thread about this
Now let us approach in this way... The world was under eternal genjutsu of Juubi. Eventually the Sage broke it. So apparently this is good. But what do you think will be the condition of this world now??
A world which was previously in a genjutsu now woke up to the "reality" and saw that previously what they thought to be real ended up as being an illusion. Now here comes the question as to why ninjutsu was created in the first place?
It is said ninjutsu was created for bringing back peace. Now why was it necessary? It would have been necessary if there is chaos spawned out in the immediate aftermath of the cancelling of the eternal genjutsu (Honestly what would you do if you suddenly woke up from a never ending dream and realized that things were not in the order they used to be?)
Now he was halfway in realizing his dream, that of a real world of peace and stability. That's when he saw chaos has raised its evil head in his own family. His sons were squabbling over the hierarchy issue. He choose his younger son who prized love over anything else as his heir. As a result he realised that a war would break out and the peace and stability he had achieved would have all be in vain. Then he divided the Juubi's chakra into nine parts and sealed the chakraless body in moon. All this happened when he was in his death bed.
Now there could be two reasons why he sealed the Juubi,
1. No one could use the Juubi, especially his elder son, blessed with the Sennin's eyes
2. It is clear that the SO6P didn't befriend the Juubi. After his death the Juubi would surely go on a rampage(The Juubi was in a bondage,he would have surely become a mass of hatred after sage's death. Now he would not bother to create any peace, whether be it real or an illusion)
Now the Uchiha's stone tablet comes into foreplay. I always had a question in mind what was in the mind of the sage when he passed down the stone tablet? I mean if he wanted to pass down his legacy or his way of life, then there's his sons, why the stone tablet?
There's four stages to unlock the contents of the stone tablet.
1. The normal Sharingan(three tomoes).
2. The Mangekyou Sharingan
3. The Eternal mangekyou sharingan.
4. The Rinnegan.
Now what's there in this tablet? Lets take a quick look.
1. At first stage - the secret to awake the MS.
Requirement - to kill your best friend.
2. At second stage - the way to control the Kyuubi, the secret to achieve the EMS.
Requirement - the cost of the MS blindness, to take another Uchiha's eyes.
3. At third stage - the power of the EMS, the secret to awake the Rinnegan.(Basically Uchicha are Yin chakra type and Senju are Yang chakra type)
4. At fourth stage - secrets of the Rinnegan, unlock the seal of the Juubi's chakraless body, ressurecting juubi.
Now here is what I think, do any of these have anything to do with peace?? To kill one's best friend, to control the Kyuubi, resurrect the Juubi surely has not anything to do with peace! But still why did the SO6P pass it down?
Because he had regret?? Maybe he realized at his deathbed peace due to mutual understanding is simply an illusion.
So maybe he purposely left a way to resurrect the Juubi. Maybe he felt at his *** end of life what he had done was a mistake. Maybe peace itself is an illusion(Pardon me, no offence meant).
So that's why I think that he died with a regret.
