Did the mist blind Kakashi?

Was it all a mistake?! Did the mist ninjas use the Hidden Mist jutsu and blind Kakashi to the point where he couldn't tell friend from foe? Despite of the rain, he clearly had tears in his eye! So do you think this is possible?

We've seen kakashi sheeding tears so I think he was very aware that he was killing Rin, but it seems like he had no other choice since he didn't freak out when used rakiri on her...
Ofc that is only if there were no Zetsu involved so what I just said was just a simple thought I had =/
