Well the problem is that Madara said that the Gedo Mazo was the shell od the Juubi which was on earth when it should have been in the moon. Instead it was in their base in the sound country ..... Also it was more of a transformation then a summon so I understand how you feel. Also looked back and say the plan was to be a Jinjuriki and use the moon to project tsukoyomi from by reflecting it like the sun's rays do!

I think the original summoner was Nagato, then since Obito got Nagato's eye he's now able to summon the Gedo Mazo.

Madara summoned it from the moon where the Sage of Six Paths put it, then Nagato summoned it.

Yeah Kishi kind of did a double takeit could be tjst the moon was used to contain the Juubi so he could then seal it in himself, and somehow the Juubi's shell was left cast elsewhere. Otherwise it makes no sense that the shell of the Juubi that should be in the moon was in the Bone cave. I was expecting the Gedo to shoot some huge laser into the sky to awaken it. It was much cooler when the eye of the Juubi was going to be in the moon instead of Obito reflecting his eye off the moon like sun rays...
