Did official sources lie about Tobi=Madara? No flaming, please.

The Madara and Tobi tabs mention them both being the same person. After Obito steals Nagato's eye, the end of a chapter mentions that Madara is closer to being complete.

Even though we now know he's not Madara and despite the "You Have No Right To Call Kishi a Troll" thread started in late August on this forum section, do you think that we can now reasonably say that the databook and comic chapters was lying about Tobi=Madara?

Keep in mind, chapter scanslations do vary from official Viz tankoubon translations.

Also, while there are such things as plot twists, I think possibly lying about an important masked character's identity can have the fans (possibly rightfully so) lose faith in a writer's work to the point that the fans may think the writer is/has/could lie about even more things.

It was obviously assumed that Obito wasn't lying. He can't tell us everything in advance or theres no point in reading it at all lol

Keep in mind that Tobi was just revealed in 2012, and that databook and such apparently was made in 2009, three years before Tobi was revealed. We have to keep in mind that only Kishi knew who Tobi was. At that time, that was probably whenever almost everyone believed that Tobi = Madara because of what was stated in the manga. Even in a Databook from three years ago would not reveal who Tobi actually was.

That's my view on it.

actually it was kind of obvious that that person wasn't madara (not strong enough) and his lie had a purpose witch is to get everyone's attention (UCHIHA MADARA is a big name) and that was also a bit clear i mean why would a phony say am uchiha madara unless he waned attention??. now any other lie would be kind of meaningless.

So you're saying Kishi loses credibility because he kept the most secretive/mysterious character in the show a secret? Come on now.

You shouldn't take the databooks serious, only take the manga serious, cause a lot wouldn't work out if you believed the databooks.

Obviously Kishi was "lying", through Obito's dialogue as well as Chapter headline's ("Madara's plan" for example).

It's called a plot-twist...

That time no one knew that Tobi=Obito. So they everyone will consider Tobi=Madara until Kishi revealed himself.

The Madara and Tobi tabs mention them both being the same person. After Obito steals Nagato's eye, the end of a chapter mentions that Madara is closer to being complete.
The key to revive Madara was the Rinne Tensei Jutsu through Rinnegan. The person who was appointed for that job was Nagato but he died. So the left was Tobi. That time everyone considered that Tobi/Madara will revive himself and destroy Konoha. Instead Tobi intended to use it to revive Madara.
