I still think there's more to it. He's been alive this whole time and has been watching everything, even the massacre. Rin's death played a big part in him wanting a world where she's alive, but something still doesn't feel right to me.

Do u know how? There's naruto that is interested in protecting his friends and the village, there's anbu that's only interested in protecting the village, and then there's just obito that "was" only interested in protecting Rin... It's starting to get confusing lol

Well I had a theory about him being Rikudou's older son because Izuna was dead confirmed by Madara, so the only one that was in my mind was Rikudou's son.

Seriously though, yes, she does play a big part but I was thinking about after he became Tobi and found out more things. I really think he plans to betray Madara but not in a bad guy turned good sort of way.

but because of madara obito had an opportunity to change the world unlike other characters
and there's more behind rin she was experimented on by the hidden mist and whatever happened to her hasn't been revealed yet
once it is there would probably be a better reason

Well it's not just because of Rin's death. Obito went through plenty of pain because of her death and Kakashi's "betrayal to his promise" but the real idea behind it all was that he came to the conclusion that this life is full of pain and suffering, and everybody's claim to hope and promises are simply lies hiding people from reality. Madara offered the Moons Eye Plan, which sounded amazing to him because it was the easiest way to halt the pain he felt and stop others from feeling the same.

That has absolutely nothing to do with it. I hated it at first too and I almost stopped reading it. What changed my mind was his back story and resolve. It was bloody brilliant. That's when I realised Obito is the anti-Naruto, and it couldn't make any more sense to me.
