Well neither becoming the jinchuuriki doens't make complete sense because in order to seal something inside of you, you must first be alive. The fact that he was cured came after he became the jin so he had to first survive the hit somehow and then he would have regenerative abilities of Juubi.

He wasn't dead. He just wasn't alive and kicking. there's plenty of room for speculation that he did whatever he needed to do just prior and it kick in afterwards.

That's the way almost every seal works. Seals exists to be broken and so the sealed target can be set free through the process of unsealing. That's the way Jinchuuriki are used as vessels, there are various seals to put the Bijuus inside, and you can break the seals to set free these beasts as Akatsuki did with the deceased Jinchuurikis.

You also need rinnegan to summon Mezzo to create the Juubi.

The Sage became Jinchuuriki before awakening the Rinnegan. So there is a contradiction.
