Yes the power creep was done horribly in Naruto. Actually Naruto series takes the title as the worst power creep in all animé and manga.

The biggest jutsu before Madara came along was Chibaku Tensei and it made Nagato vomit blood. Hashirama doesn't even break a sweat whipping out something 50× the Kyuubis size. It wasn't a gradual escalation that would make the power creep more sensible, it was a sudden break on the scale that left everyone with no direct relation to Hagoromo in the dust.

Hashiramas powers being so drawback free shattered the scope of the entire Narutoverse without proper build up and was a major strike against the idea that anyone would consider Nagato a god like power or that the newer generation will surpass the previous.

I think so. As the series progressed, the characters moved from ninjas into godlike powerhouses. This is particularly evident with Naruto's power when utilizing the Kyuubi's chakra.

Actually its not about power skyrocketed but on how Kishi failed to handle the powerup by writing a proper plot for it.

SM as Naruto's strongest form would NE dumb since he had a tailed beast inside of him he was always meant to control it and get more power. And we already knew it was more to the sharingan than what we knew so far at that time because of the reason Orochimaru wanted it so bad. The power scaling actually made sense IMO it just happened to fast.

I feel like he did go overboard personally. I don't like how the power levels ended up by the end of the series. I guess I just overall hate the idea that everytime a threat shows up now that only two people can have a good fight. It annoys me and I wish that it didn't happen that way but eh. It only got really out of control around the time Naruto got control of Kurama.

I think the issue is not so much the power level more the gap in power of everyone else compared to like Naruto and Sasuke. the basic 64 palm technique of the hyuuga or like a shadow strangle technique can no longer compete with Sasukes chidori or narutos Rasengan not even in the slightest way. You are either in the select few group who are over powered, or you are an average shinobi but incredibly weak in comparison. Take Sakura who thought now with this seal I will finally be able to catch up to Naruto and Sasuke but even with that she still wasnt able to ever be on their level, yet that was the best jutsu available for her skill type.

The 9 tails has always been an incredibly strong being that can destroy a city etc but if everyone else is still really weak in comparison then it looks like its too much. It would be like if in DBZ only Goku and Vegeta were super saiyans and every other character was krillin.
