My Opinion
Kisame was one of my favourite characters in the manga, he was hyped a lot along with itachi during the build up to shippuden and was made out to be an extremely strong ninja - which he was...

keeping in mind that this thread isnt a thread about his strength but rather his placement within the series.

Kisame's death was validated due to a few things...

Death Analysis

Firstly, Kisame intentionally lost to killer be and A - although argueably he still may have been defeated if he was actually intending to fight.
He had some badass abilities and wasnt called the tail-less beast for nothing :)
The reason he lost to the pair intentionally was to gather intel whilst within samehada...

Next, Kisame died to put an end between the 'rivalry' of Gai and himself...
Kishi pretty much let his build up of Kisame and gai's battles - become a determining factor, ultimately in who would take down kisame...
It just so happens that Kisame was in an extremely weakened state when he had to fight Gai again - having just come out of Samehada and having to absorb the little chakra he could to fight back. - he pretty much was set up to fail.

Again, PLOT - Kisame was only revealed to be within the great sword thanks to Naruto's development with bijuumode - if it hadnt been for that then kisame may have very well escaped with the intel and played a crucial part in the war.

Finally, Kisame commited suicide - his role of honour towards to akatsuki (which IMO wasn't really hinted to during his previous characterisation) in order to prevent the enemy from retrieving intel.

Escape? and Recognition!
Had he not committed suicide - would there have been any way for him to escape?
I think not - he had been too badly beaten by Gai - and was lucky that his scroll's seal was broken to help the Intel that he had collected get away.

Therefore Kisame also played a crucial role in the war that is currently happening - providing in depth information that would have been otherwise inaccessable...

All these facts of characterisation - analysis of death etc prompts the question...

Did Kisame really deserve to die?

My Answer
It seemed to me as if all of his hype was underplayed towards the end of the series...however im not attempting to say that he is an under-rated character...
Most people can agree that he was hyped within the series - whether or not this extra publicity and high estimation of abilities is valid depends on your personal opinions.
Kisame's actions were that of a respectful Shinobi - although an enemy from our perspective 'one man's hero is another's villain' which i think adequatly describes his scenario as his characterisation enforces that Kisame was larger thinking person - his death defining him as a loyal person and 'human being'...His death...maybe deserved was also one that examplifies the 'shinobi' life that is used as a motif within the series.

So does anyone wish he was still alive?
PLEASE NOTE:
This thread is not regarding debate of his strength...it is not a vs thread...
The thread regards his characterisation and ultimately his death that defined him as an awesome character within the series.
ALSO NOTE:
As the thread is not about power - whether or not he was brought back through edo is irrelevant (kabuto also couldn't have revived him as he already had all the DNA - and sacrifices that he would need for the war.)

Thanks for reading if u did, whats your opinion :)

while he died like a boss (ive said this in more threads than i can count) he indeed deserved to die. its called being held accountable for your actions. even though he was raised in the bloody mist village there still comes a time when an adult can decide whats right and whats wrong. the guy killed countless comrads before he even joined the akatsuki (one of which tried to reach out to him when nobody else would) then after joining the akatsuki he hunted down and murdered jinchuriki. while his story is sad a spade is still a spade. kisame was a villain and deserved to die. i dont think he would even argue that. kind of why i think he died with a smile on his face

Interesting, but your suggestion about how severely weakened Kisame was facing Gai, and how he was killed by plot no jutsu stinks of fanboyism.
mmm perhaps - only that im not a kisame fanboy and i like so many other chars over him...i just thought he was extremely respectable as a character and wondered what other people though of his death...it wasnt a thread about his power in comparison to Gai or anyone.

the reason kisame died protecting the intel was really beacuase he has a strong connection with tobi who was a former mizukage

and also kisame was healthy when he faught guy just didnt have the samehada
you sir are a complete fool, tobi wasnt mizukage - and that wasnt why they had a strong connection..

also kisame wasnt at 'full' power...but i dont want to turn this thread into something about that

In a way, he was an honorable member of the Akatsuki that sacrificed his life to deliver information to his leaders. Like all the bad guys, he probably had a destiny to die and people where relieved when he was gone since he was such a dangerous person but I liked his character because of how he acted and goofed around. His conversations with Itachi were entertaining and he had some sort of a hero death. So yeah, he died like a boss so it's ok.

I really don't care when a character that I liked dies. Main thing is how they die and his death was cool. So no problem I think. I was also sad when Hiruzen died but the way how he did it was great. Too bad Tobi didn't care. Pain cared about each death of an Akatsuki member. That's something I liked.
