Did Itachi make the right choice?

As we all know Itachi killed his clan and played it off to Sasuke as if he did it on his own will, but was that the right choice? He could have run away and left root to deal with there own problem, I would love to hear your input on this decision.

I picked he should have just runaway but that would have resulted in the innocent villagers of Konoha being smoked by the Uchiha clan. I really don't know what he should have done ...

If he knew the Uchiha Clan was going to plan a Coup d'état against Konoha, he should have killed everyone including Sasuke.

Well it's not as if Itachi was psychic and foresaw that Sasuke was going to turn into such a fool.

I would of done the same thing for my little brother. No regrets.

I wish he did not kill the clan, but i still think it was the right thing to do!
If his decision played a HUGE role in the outcome and plot of Naruto. Without him the naruto plot just would not add up!

HE did the right thing just not killing his brother was the only mistake since he was orderd to kill every uchiha, basicaly he failed his mission.

The only thing he did wrong was give sasuke too much hate so after he killed him instead of returning to the leaf as a hero he just looked for new revenge. damn madara helped ruin everything too
