Did Hashi even deserve fans before this chapter?

This is the first chapter we've seen Hashi show off his personality. How were people fans of a character they knew nothing about? We're you a fan just living off his hype alone? What if he was a douche like Tobirama xd?

Although Hashi did turn out to be swell guy. He reminds me of Goku.
