Did Danzo save Sasuke?

I think I missed something when I read a chapter the other day.

When Itachi shows Sasuke the true flashback of what actually happened in the Uchiha massacre (after they beat Kabuto) Itachi speaks to Danzo and Danzo says he can save his little brother if he so chooses? ....Why? Why would Danzo think that?
Was he thinking to turn him into a weapon? Why didn't he take him into the Root or something?

I genuinely think there's something I missed there, as it also sadly reduces the emotional impact of Itachi wanting to save his little brother in the first place.

Itachi made a deal with Danzo to not hurt sasuke. If Sasuke revived even a scar because danzo. Then we would've seem the wrath of itachi upon Danzo and we would've seen his real powers. In conclusion Danzo was scared that's y he didn't do anything to Sasuke

Well the way it was put, Danzo was saving Sasuke through blackmail.

Danzo's options for Itachi were this: 1. Sasuke lives, and the rest of the clan dies (Hiruzen would gurentee Sasuke's survival). 2. Itachi along with the rest of the clan dies when they try to take over.

So one could say by giving Itachi a choice he saved Sasuke. Danzo still would not have trusted Sasuke, but the wishes and deal between Sasuke and Hiruzen were what kept him from doing anything. Itachi's return to Konoha in Part I (after Hiruzen's death) was basically a bold statement of, "Hey Danzo, I'm still here...don't touch my brother!"

Danzo wanted Itachi to do the job and take the blame for everything without involving his superiors.In exchange Itachi could save Sasuke and ensure his future in the Konoha.

And wait so what stopped Danzo from just assassinating Sasuke after Itachi left? That's a pretty big risk leaving your little brother in a village full of racists and a whole underground unit ready to kill him... this whole exchange just seriously confused me is all.

He just made that deal, as he loved Sasuke more than anything. If Danzo did hurt Sasuke, Itachi would seriously whack the crap out of him, so it's calm.

I agree....Danzo wanted Konoha's safety. The problem was that he believed his way was the only way (because it was an assured way) to protect Konoha. Danzo also believed that only he (as Hokage) could get the job done, and he didn't care about the individual so long as the village as a whole was safe (the whole Pain arc move).

Thanks for the help guys, makes a lot more sense now and that explains the whole 'change in character' of Danzo.

I would actually argue that Danzo didn't really have much of a heart at all. His love for the village and motive came entirely from jealousy (of Sarutobi) and nothing positive can come out of a motive like that. You can argue that everything he does and all the evil things he's done in his life (creating a screwed up unit of super soldiers, working with Orochimaru, ACTUAL GENOCIDE) for 'the village' doesn't really justify what he's done. He thinks that he's in the right of course, but so did Orochimaru, so did Gaara's father, so did Madara.
Danzo also strikes me as an incredibly intelligent man, somewhere in his mind he must've known that what he was doing was corrupt. He is no more morally right than a mob boss is. As that's essentially what he is, imagine an incredibly powerful gang that under the shadows actually have control over the law, giving bribes and doing the dirty work that has to be done. That's what Danzo is.

I say he did not really saved him but spared him because when Danzo and Sasuke fought Danzo clearly states the biggest mistake that your brother made was keeping you alive (Dont quote me but he said something like that) so as we can see if he had it his was he would have his eyes in that dam arm of his.
