Asuma is more versatile than Shikamaru.

I liked Asuma but he was kinda of a plain character in shadows of Kakashi & Guy..

I liked Asuma. He was tough as nails but he was very kind when ot came to his students. It was cool that he would spend so much time with his team and treat them to BBQ, play chess, etc.

Kishi inflated his hype balloon too late to make him interesting. His final battle was not the time to make us a believer.

He was cool, but he never seemed all that strong to me, even with the 12 guardian stuff or whatever. from what we saw his battle skills where ok, he seemed to be a lot better with his students then say.... Kakashi though.

He was just gone too fast to leave an impact. His sacrifice doesn't really work either because he was only ever given one and a half fights.

Fighting style was cool though, I remember reading his ninjutsu was on par with Kakashi.
