Did anyone ever wonder how Itachi obtained both the Yata Mirror and Sword of Totsuk? I mean, aren't they spirit weapons, so how would one carry them without Susanoo? The yata mirror was huge and so was the sword....plus they only appeared when he uses susanoo, as if they are part of a whole package.

The Susano'o s seem to operate as semi-independent organisms, capable of thought and even seals and techniques, like summonings. Itachi is a character who discovered many "lost" histories of his clan, probably because they were passed down partly from his family position. I bet he went out and found them with that knowledge, and earned or qualified for being able to use them through some personality trait.

They fit his personality well - Benevolent, potent, long-lasting, low maintenance, low profile, and fast.
