Such as, did it manage to shock or surprise you, leave a lasting impression etc.

So here is my short story.

This summer, I was pretty depressed. I was tired of my work, I was feeling lonely because I had no likeminded people to talk to about what I was into at that moment, and I was feeling down after my journey to Europe, which always happens after I visit countries where life is better than in mine.

So I decided to check out the manga that many people on NB were talking about, Akame ga Kill. I liked the artwork of the images I saw and heard many praising it, and sure enough, found it likable due to epic action scenes and memorable, distinct characters. However, I was unable to pick a favorite character as I seemed to like most of them.

I ended up picking one randomly. And then I had a revelation that it was just the thing I lacked in my bleak life. I haven't felt that way for a long time. At that moment, I knew that it was the only cure for my depression, my apathy, and I was able to laugh and cry again. And I even had people to talk about it too, even if they might laugh at me or consider me a lunatic.

And thus, my depression passed, I started enjoying my job again, I actually was feeling much happier and my general mood got better. I was inspired to draw and write after a long break. And even though my passion ended as well, I am still grateful that I found such a light among my reality's gloom.

Yes, it has had a massive impact on me. The manga has shown to me that the human race is not defined by our good deeds, but by our sins. How much and how often we murder, steal, loot, rape, seduce etc in our lives is how our era is defined. This is why so many people still talk about World War 2. So, this manga taught me not to be so hard on myself when I make mistakes, since that is what makes us human.

No, they're cartoons.
They are works of fiction, which is art. Art had been making humans feel good or bad throughout history.

I am a kind of person who gets emotional over beautiful paintings, music, books, video games... So call me overly sentimental but it's my brain's way of working.

It's a trash series, which fans crave it for only because it has mindless and pointless deaths just for the sake of having some dead characters in the series. Blinded fans believe this factor makes it a mature series, even comparing it with long running series like Bleach, Naruto or One Piece.

To sum it up, AgK is just an average series. The anime made it worse though.

AgK is a pretty bad series. I just liked Syura way too much.
We know, and that counts U_U

Edit: @Klad: well, I find it entertaining, but not deep or anything. It isn't really among my top favorite manga either. I just found myself emotionally invested in one character. Since this is an AgK section, I wanted to hear from its fans.

Actually Chelsea taught me a lot.
She taught me, that you should always be cheerful and have that smile on your face, no matter how many problems you have in your life.
She taught me, to always try your level best and never give up, even if you have weakest teigu in the entire AGKverse.
She taught me, that you should be always vary of your opponent, otherwise you may get yourself killed.
She also taught me, that intelligence is key to success and not your physical prowess.
She taught me, that you should love comrades, even though you met them before few weeks.
She also taught me, that there is nothing wrong in dreaming and working hard towards your goal, even though chances of being successful are pretty small.
I could write an essay on what Chelsea taught me.U_U

While I agree that AgK is pretty bad, Naruto and Bleach aren't much less shitty. Don't know about One Piece since I don't read it.

It had probably the biggest impact on me out of all manga/anime because at the time I started reading it, it felt good that there was this amazing manga that didn't have an anime yet, that I had yet to catch up with. Then I started making animations and colourings for it, agk is basically what got me started on that.

Then the anime took a dump on everything and basically ruined it.

So overall, it seems I gained the most out of the mediocre series that is AgK? Good to know.
Well, I think that something useful can be learned from just about anything. I mean, I simply prefer manga of a different kind, and no series is perfect anyway - actually I can criticize any of them. But there are different ways to look at every work of fiction. It can be judged by the author's technique, or it can simply be viewed from the point of its emotional impact, and in the end, it is still up to you whether you consider it good or bad, overall, for you.

I think that, the more positive emotions or feelings you get from a fictional work, the better, and you shouldn't really look at others' opinions since in that case they really don't matter. On the other hand, reading others' constructive criticizm can be interesting and help you view said work of fiction from different angles.

I mean, I realize that Ran as a character is nothing special at best, but he is important to me.
