As someone who writes creatively for a living, I'm in the minority on this base who feels that this is the right course of action. Naruto is a creative work, which means a lot of hard work goes into it. Honestly, how many people who go to these websites actually buy the volumes? Again, as someone who literally makes their living through creative writing, I support it.

However, I think this is just like what happened with music back in the late 90s. The action they're taking now is too little too late.

I understand what you mean but the problem is how many people will actually buy a volume of a manga they have never heard of or read? At some point, we were all new to Naruto, Bleach, etc. Could you honestly say you would have picked up the manga or watched the anime if you had to pay for it first? By enforcing a charge you risk limiting exposure to other markets. Perhaps there should be a middle ground such as making the sites themselves pay sites. But you will always run into pirated sites just as it is with movies, TV shows, and music.

True, but for most people, there is a bookstore within their city limits. There's also this thing called a synopsis that tells you what the story is about. As far as anime, you really only have a synopsis to go by if you can only watch on tv and it's too far ahead.

I was new to Naruto, caught it during the land of waves arc, and wasn't sure what was going on. That's what the synopsis is for. At the end of the day, by reading it for free and not supporting the work is wrong. Sure there are plenty who buy volumes, but it's still taking food off another man's plate.
