Maybe but I think after he over heard Tobirama bashing him the guy that caused his brother's death and then his own clan turning their backs on him it pushed him to read that Tablet and fully decipher it and get the idea of being the the 10 tails host and finding out about the Rinnegan..So he was kinda pushed towards being evil.
