So with the Sub justu is the substitution a clone that if it's hit it turns into wood or is it actually you and you cast the jutsu. Where does that log come from and where does your body go? Or is the wood made from chakra or summoned and you are spawned to a random place or you get to choose where you go within a certain distance?

It's a forgotten jutsu that will never be explained properly. I don't understand how an opponent wouldn't see you switching places with a log.

That's what I thought but technically let's say if there was a beach fight, a ninja used sub and wood appears and he's behind opponent , where does the wood come from ??

It was a mistake. When you think about it, it is the most overpowered jutsu in the show. No matter what the attack hits you, you can instantly be somewhere else with little to no chakra cost.

that's the closest answer that we all gonna get until(if) Kishi ever explains it. And being this far into the story I highly doubt we will ever learn much more about it

I would describe it as that for your opponent, it looks like vanished and in your place appeared a lock/some other item or person.

It is an old jutsu from the start of the series and not shown anymore in the anime and manga.
Maybe it should never have been used, because how it works and how powerful it is, can be quite confusing.

It isnt that powerful of a jutsu and not something frequently used in high lvl fights.

I like to believe that for a better than average shinobi (like high chunin, jounin or higher), it doenst look like you vanished but that they can see you make the swap with the item or person that you substitute with.

If it even looks like you vanished for a better than average shinobi, than the ability would just be to powerful.
It would almost be like spacetime jutsu and the subsitution jutsu isnt suppose to be that powerful.
It is a jutsu to create an opening and escape, with more of a prank level than seriousness imo.

These are my views on the jutsu.
I hope this answers your question.
