Is the U.S a real democracy? i'm not sure you can call a country that is run by corporations a democracy... sounds more like fascist, or socialism if you ask me.

quote from network 1976

"It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance! You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels. It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU... WILL... ATONE! Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today. What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state, Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do. We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime. And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that... perfect world... in which there's no war or famine, oppression or brutality. One vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock. All necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused."

this is the how the world works.

First time watching the Network huh?
Yeah that movie is trippy and speaks more truths than all the Obama's and Clinton's of the world combined. To answer your question: yes that is how the world works. It's about control. I just watched Pat McCrory say at a press conference that we don't need Liberal arts majors because they're not practical career fields. Basically they want obedient workers as Carlin put it so eloquently; they feed you crap about following your dreams up until the time you actually are of age to strive for them and then they tell you "be practical you'll never be able to do that..."
Ask yourself, why should we obey and serve? Ask why these are the messages pumped into us everyday, sometimes without our knowing it. And then ask yourself WTF is wrong with this beautiful rock we're living on.

It would be fascist or socialist if it wasn't run by corporations actually. More and more the corporations are losing power due to the whiny bitch socialists who want to live in a poor economy.

It has never been a democracy. More like fascism/socialist. But I prefer to use the term 'progressive indirect dictatorship', in which the people think they are free, and as time goes by, more and more rights are being taken away from the masses to achieve a totalitarian state.

Well, technically, the country is a democratic republic.

As for the rest, well, we are a capitalist society. We follow the money. We've always followed the money. Our government is a battle on how best to control and regulate the free market to our best advantage. This causes quite a bit of internal strife, and as such the results aren't always the best.

And like you mentioned, the money sometimes proves to overpower the government. But that only happens as long as the government is willing to let the money control it. Which it in most cases will. >.>

I must keep faith this is not always the case. Pure capitalism is as bad as pure socialism is. There must not be a pure substance of one. It must be a combination of government guidance and free market. That is as the United States should be.
