Is invisible explosion or a "dud", regardless do you believe he would be foolish to believe such an opponent would use a dud with such a massive jutsu.

Honestly, just think about it. Sasuke knew it was highly unlikely that it was a dud and act accordingly. Jiraiya observing this would be suspicious and not knowing where the attack will occur would need to keep himself protected, that being able to sense his surrounding area.

When Nagato went invisible, he instantly used this jutsu because of the unknown. This is a similar situation

Having this in character only helps Jiraiya as his versatility in base is exceptional while Deidara would start with some C1 explosives. If he's in the air J-man could easily just drop a toad right on top of the bird into a swamp. Summonings are a big part of Jiraiya's arsenal so its reasonable to say he'd use it almost right away, especially if Deidara's in the air.

You're clearly underestimating his intelligence in your favor here. Deidara's art revolves around unique explosions, yet you think Jiriya would think nothing of a blast, concluding it was a dud, not willing to take precaution as he has the means to?

Jiriya is known for taking precaution, entering Peins lair, etc. an idiot would think it's a misfire.

Deidara wins. In the time it takes him to summon Gamabunta Deidara would already have bombs rushing him. Gamabunta has shitty durability since he was one shotted by a regular almighty push. Deidara bombs would easily put him down.

I see Jiraiya as a stronger person who is more level headed with more chakra, but Deidara wins this. His explosive clay is real tricky, and even if he is mildly arrogant and inexperienced, his feats are too good.

Jiraya wouldn't let deidara to gain height. jiraya will summon gamabunta very early to gain height too. Deidaras bombs need preparation time and jiraya isn't slow he will summon ma and pa, so mas tongue can catch deidara, followed by a rasengan and than deidara is beaten.
If jiraya let deidara flying higher than he can reach him it would be dangerous , cause of the big bombs of deidara, but gamabunta can jump very far to get out of the impact.

As Zexion said Gamabunta would get wrecked rather easily with quick enough bombs. Not to mention Jiraiya likely won't have the time to do the summoning anyway. Also,you do realize it takes time to turn into SM right? Jiraiya wouldn't get that luxury if Deidara is blitzing him with bombs from all over. I still fail to see how Jiraiya counters C-3 or C-4
