Don't create any flame wars...I am not a sasuke fanboy ...You do not know me so do not judge me U_U(Naruto is my fav character)....I just find this at another naruto forum and just wanted to share with my fellow naruto SERIES fan out here...

Sasuke Uchiha, the name of the boy who gave up his everything for the sake of revenge. Who is Sasuke?
I am sure most of you have started to hate him because of his stupid decisions and choices, but let me ask you; would you even survive with Sasuke’s past and present in your life?
Yes, no doubt he made decisions that are only worsening his life and will continue to make him suffer. People easily say that he should have returned to Konoha with Naruto and restored the Team 7. How could he do so? Let’s start from the very first scene of his life that we’ve seen. Here I am just going to sum up Sasuke’s role and suffering, to give a base to my writing. You can skip it if you want, but for a proper feel I recommend to read it whole.
Born in the mighty Uchiha clan, Sasuke was named after the Third Hokage’s father, Sasuke Sarutobi, who was a legendary ninja. Sasuke was hoped to become a splendid ninja, just like Sasuke Sarutobi. He had a very loving family, which he loved back too. Everything was going great.
His big brother was really kind to him and Sasuke idolized him with all his heart, but he was also jealous of how genius he was.
“Father only talks about you. He only sees you.”
But Itachi didn’t feel bad on the statement, rather he explained Sasuke that even if he hates him, he will always love and take care of his little brother. Sasuke never hated Itachi, but he also needed recognition, an image that didn’t say ‘Itachi’s brother’. He wanted to be known as Sasuke, so he worked hard. He asked his father to teach him the Uchiha’s signature fireball jutsu. When his father showed him and gave him space to attempt it, Sasuke failed. Fugaku knew that Itachi was different and so he understood that he needn’t expect a lot from Sasuke.
Sasuke was disappointed at himself, but he decided to perfect the fireball jutsu. Sasuke regularly went to the lake where his father taught him the jutsu and worked hard, making several attempts to get through. He got bruises and scratches all over his face, but he continued. After a few days, he perfected the jutsu. He wanted to show that to his father and hear the words his father said to Itachi.
“That’s my boy.”
He ran and brought him to the lake. He quickly made all the hand signs, took a long breath and spitted a huge ball of fire, to which Fugaku was highly amazed.
“That’s my boy. You did well. Now you can wear the Uchiha crest with pride.
Also, I will say one thing. Don’t follow your brother.”
Sasuke was noticing a change in his brother. Itachi was usually quiet but there was a time when he actually rebelled against the clan. It shocked Sasuke, but he decided not to give a deep thought about it. And then the day came. Sasuke returned late from his academy only to find a very quiet Uchiha compound. There was no noise, no mement, no life… Sasuke continued to his house and by this time, he was highly scared.
Dead.
Sasuke couldn’t believe his eyes as he saw his parents on the floor, lifeless. Behind came the figure, the killer who was none other than his own big brother. Sasuke was confused, enraged and broken, all at the same time. Upon asking his brother about why he massacred the clan, the answer was.
“Foolish little brother… If you want to kill me… curse me! Hate me! And live a long and unsightly life… Run away… run away… and cling to your pitiful life.”
At this stage Sasuke experienced a high level traumatic genjutsu that summed up the events of the massacre and repeated them only to increase the mental trauma. Sasuke survived the whole scene, but he was highly influenced by the incident so as to detach himself from every friend he had. Sasuke recalled the moments again and again and it made him suffer even more. He then became a genin and was put in with two failures, according to him, together namely Team 7.
As a team, he had to cooperate anyway, but wasn’t ready to do so or open up to any of them. They went to a high class mission and took the Chunin Exams together and even if Sasuke was never the kind to help his comrades, he did fight for them to death. Even if Sasuke never realized it, he had grown very close to his teammates and his teacher. So close, that he almost gave abandoning revenge and staying in Konoha, a thought.
Things weren’t that easy though as other people have their own selfish motives. Orochimaru, an old Leaf missing-nin hunted down Sasuke and convinced him to follow him. Sasuke was blinded by the power Orochimaru offered him and decided to leave the village, only to get enough power to destroy Itachi.
His best friend, Naruto wasn’t the kind to lose one of his first bonds and so he fought to bring Sasuke back. Sasuke was in denial but Naruto’s words affected him to an extent. Yet, even if he felt like staying, he had his life laid down by Itachi and he had to go through it. So Sasuke betrayed the Leaf and left.
After 3 years with Orochimaru, Sasuke had grown considerably stronger, but not enough according to him. But then he met someone whom he didn’t expect to trail after him even after 3 years. Naruto and his team were again standing in front of Sasuke, asking and begging him to return back to Konoha. Sasuke refused and went far away from them.
He now was getting impatient. Revenge was so close to him, but he still had a plan in his genius head. He first killed Orochimaru and then he formed a team with Orochimaru’s subordinates who he had known and thought were capable in tracking down Itachi and removing any interruptions in their fight. Once he located Itachi, he faced him directly, leaving his team behind.
When he was finally face to face with his brother, Sasuke learnt a lot of things about Uchiha clan and its history, which he wasn’t aware of. Sasuke was nervous but he carried his battle with Itachi well, by planning locations and chakra limitations he had. Yet the unexpected still happened. Through the curse seal Sasuke possessed, he forced out his chakra when he had none left which caused Orochimaru’s eruption from the chakra remains. Itachi, on seeing Orochimaru, fully used his Susano’o and sealed him in an eternal world of dreams. Itachi approached Sasuke, wanting to take his eyes and acquire the ultimate eye jutsu. Step by step, Itachi grew closer and Sasuke’s fear rose. But as soon as Itachi reached Sasuke, he poked Sasuke’s forehead and said surprising words.
“Forgive me, Sasuke. It ends with this.”
What?
Sasuke woke up in a cave with a masked man beside him. He then memorized that he had finally obtained his revenge by killing Itachi. But the masked man beside him, told Sasuke a story; The True Story of Itachi Uchiha. Sasuke was highly shocked and again mentally traumatized to know that his brother, all along his life was working behind the scenes to benefit the village. He killed the whole clan because that was the best way to avoid a coup d’etat they were going to launch, which would have led to massacre of people at a country-level. Itachi, to prevent that, killed the Uchiha but he couldn’t kill his younger brother, no matter what.

Here, after only this much of his story, I would like to raise a question. All the people who have hated him and said that he is an idiot, have you all ever tried to put yourself in his shoes?
One would simply say that he still had Naruto and the others as his friends, who are still chasing after him in hopes of his redemption. He should have gone with them!
No, that wasn’t possible people. He had his revenge without which he would have lived a life full of regrets. He was always the kind to chase after power and when revenge was added, it burnt inside him furiously.
But after he got to know that Itachi was a loyal Konoha shinobi, why didn’t he turn back to the village? Instead he wants revenge!
“Itachi sacrificed everything and killed everyone in his clan, except Sasuke. To him, Sasuke’s life meant much more than anyone, even the village.”
Same way, Itachi’s life means much more to Sasuke than his home village. He cannot forget the upper echelons of Konoha for the kind of life they gave Itachi, and that is why he has plotted revenge.
Sasuke is still stupid as he doesn’t understand the results of his actions.
Correct. Why? He is still a little boy, a teenager. You cannot expect him to take rational decisions, when moreover he didn’t have proper parenting. What he is doing now, denotes how broken he is. He is beyond repair or redemption, though his best friend, Naruto, still is trying his level best to help Sasuke out of the darkness he is sinking into. This is why the theme of the show is, ‘Naruto saving Sasuke’.

I hope, with this, there is some more understanding on Sasuke’s character and his decisions. This is a tribute to a well-made character by Kishimoto, our Sasuke Uchiha. Happy Birthday, Sasuke. We all hope to see you happy in the end.
