Why does Near get so much hate? It seems like the only reason people hate him is because he isn't L.

In my opinion L was just such a loved character that people don't like that it continued without him. And since Near took his place their discontent became hatred for Near

Probably because he's almost a carbon copy of L which makes you think, why not just let L stay alive until the end?

In my opinion, if they were going to make Kira lose in the end, they shouldn't have done it with L's replacements, especially not 10 episodes later.

It's mostly the fact that he didn't live up to L's legacy, him or Mello. They were pretty subpar as characters, though, too. Mello was decent in that respect, but Near was almost completely a rip-off of L.

Well I'm at the part in the manga where light and near meet for the for the first time. This part just makes me hate near even more. Just his stupid posture and his dumb toys. Lol I guess light grew on me more than L or near. Plus being that near came late in the game doesn't give you much to like.

In my opinion Near was the best character in the series...I think he got so much hate cause he was the one that caught kira and he "stole L's credit"....

They also hate him cuz They say "L is smarter, why'd he have to get replaced by a noob" but they fail to realize that he is only 17 -_-

But anyways, Near is awesome ^_^

Near isn't a rip-off of L, it's his childish behavior(for god's sake he is a child) that reminds the viewers of L. However, how they treated the Kira case was completely different. Near thought of the whole case as a game, a puzzle to solve whereas L wanted to win because of his beliefs of ''justice''. L's death was crucial part in Light's character development.
