So, I've just recently had the idea, that Light might became a Shinigami. Let me explain to you, why I think so.
(Most of you probably have seen this already, but for the people of you who don't just type in YT: "Death Note alternate ending")
In that video you see a unknown Shinigami asking for Ryuk. After he found Ryuk he (gives him an apple) asks him things about the human world, and then Ryuk tells him the story about Kira/Light. The unknown Shinigami leaves, without Ryuk telling him the whole story. As soon as Ryuk noticed, that the Shinigami already left, he says: "YOU were not god." Now there are two options, 1. Ryuk could've talked to the unknown Shinigami (which I believe could be Light), or he could've talked to Light. (I'm gonna explain this by an example. Let's say, your dad passes away. You won a Tennis match, and your Dad never was proud of you playing Tennis, bcz you always lost, so now you're telling him: "Dad. I won, I finally won. Are you proud of me now?") the rest of the Video explains itself.
Now I'm gonna start with my "real" theory.
So, we all know, the ones, who killed people due to the Death Note go to "Mu"/Nothingsness. But what if the Shinigami Realm is the "Nothingsness", for a person which killed people due the DN, IF a Shinigami writes the name in his DN? (later more) I think, that the Shinigami Realm once was a real "world" with "real people/humans". It somehow got "destroyed" one day, and no one lived there anymore. Except for one (maybe it was a treatment, because he started all this "chaos"), the first Shinigami. The "King" of the Shinigamis. So he was doomed and he should die (said another "god"), but instead of that, he got a Death Note. The "god" said: "I have a task/duty for you. You will take care of the "earth". But you can't do it by yourself. You can give a DN to a person, which you think will use it right. But tell that person, it can't go to heaven nor to hell. If that person accepts, it will stay on your side. That's how they shall change the world, until the day arrives, that they sacrifice theirself for a human."
So now to the next point. Why has Ryuk written Light's name into the DN? As Ryuk said from the beginning, that once "the time has come" he has to write Light's name in his DN. So, in this situation, why would Ryuk write Light's name without a reason, Light would've died anyway, atleast Ryuk knew that. So I think, if the Shinigami writes the persons name in his DN it's an "entrance" for the Shinigami Realm.
That's it, i can post more arguments if you want, but I think this is long enough.
