Just finished Death Note a while ago. The ending was so unexpected and by unexpected I don't mean the death of Kira (Light) but the way of death ! I never could have imagined that a guy who was always as cool as a cucumber would die like a psychopath ! I wish they would have made the ending something more .. honorable I guess ! Best 37 episodes ever !!

What are your thoughts on the ending ?

He deserved to die. And actually he was a complete psychopath.

I didn't want Light to die but hey the ending was pretty great.

It was pretty inevitable for Light to go crazy, a normal person would've gone crazy like Light before he even killed his 100th person while Light managed to stay alive and sane with a 300k killstreak.

The ending wasn't disappointing at all. Once I started the series I knew that he will not die in a noble way. Being killed with the weapon he killed thousands is actually a cool connection if you think about it. Anyhow the series was one of the best I ever saw. It has it's flaws yes...but the characters were deep, developed, and you slowly became part of their emotions and feelings.

Kira is a delusional, manipulative and selfish character who didn't hesitate in killing many a nice and innocent people like their life didn't matter if they crossed his path.

He got that coming.

The ending was just the way it was supposed to be. People who say things like "it was out of his character" or similar stuff are just mad because it wasn't what they expected. Also he was a psychopat. Here he just showed it openly. Also you could see that this is exactly what the authors wanted in the scene when Light is running away from the warehouse and he sees his older self pass by him. You could clearly see how calm and normal he was and how twisted and pathetic he is after the whole thing ends. Another thing I loved was how Kira could see L in front of him when dying as well as the fact that they stayed true to Ryuk's promise that he'd be the one to kill Light in the end. Anyway the series is 5/5 a masterpiece and one of the best anime titles ever made.

Kira is a delusional, manipulative and selfish character who killed even his Gf and was ready to let his family die for himself. He had no right to decide who should exist or not on his own and he didn't hesitate in killing many a nice and innocent people like their life didn't matter if they crossed his path.

He got that coming. L was the justice in it not Kira.

He even would have killed his own sister for his goal.

He is cool but his death wasn't that cool. He deserved an epic death since he is the main of character

I am pro Kira unlike some of you.

I don't necessarily like the fact that he gets to choose who lives and doesn't but IMO he did good.
Sure he might've killed 20 innocent people on the way but what does it matter if some of those were family, friends colleagues or lovers?

Their lives aren't worth more than anyone else' lives.

Besides, all the relationships he had with everyone after he obtained the Death Note weren't real anymore, Light was gone and it was only Kira.
Kira has no friends, he only uses people.

I would prefer a world where no one would have to killed for peace. But I realize that this is also an impossible ideal for mankind, edit: Under normal circumstances. Something extraordinary would have to occur.

Light realizes that by using the death note he can become the justice this world needs. Honestly it does get a little out of hand by killing innocent people. It only became necesarry to kill innocent people because they tried to ruin Light's plans. Without anyone interfering with his plans, such innocent people wouldn't have needed to die. Light's way of justice may not be moral, but neither are any of the wars going on, and the murders, and crimes. Light's way of justice when compared to all that, imo is a much better solution and could possibly eventually lead to everybody being genuinely nice to everyone and helping each other out instead of killing one another.

From my view, L and friends stopped the worlds salvation.

In regards to the ending, Light's ***** was dumb as ****.

He had it coming. Having that sort of power or ability has to have a back draw effect. His lifespan was already cut in half by accepting the eyes. It makes you wonder if he had not done that would he have still died? Or did he die because of his deal?

It does lol he stated at the beginning that he wants to protect is family. Later on he would have killed his sister if he had to and played a crying child on the death bed of his father ... he turned in to a complete psychopath.

Many people fail to understand his character development; sure, he turned out sociopath. His goal in the end was puerile. But when Death Note started, he wasn't the main villain. It was when Raito explicitly met Misa when he fell to madness. Yagami is very much a victim of himself. Throughout the series, his own negative qualities prevented him from being truly successful in his goals. I believe that the very core of his aims at the beginning of the series - that is, the desire to make the world a better place by eliminating criminals - was not evil in nature. However, his own arrogance quickly warped that sort-of noble goal into a wicked desire to rule as a god.

Personally, I cannot understand how anyone could reach such an reprehensible conclusion about this character. Although it seems clear that Light did not view himself as an 'evil' person and acted like a god, this detail is irrelevant in determining the morality of his actions. To judge his morality, the question is was he aware of this big positive effect he ended up making in the world, and he was. He planned it from the start and all his assessments on how it would affect the society were absolutely right.

Regardless what anyone says, anyone can prove his methods wrong, but no one can prove his cause the same as well. We live in a society where justice is hard to be explained, as well as evil. Light Yagami certainly was not purely evil nor was his cause purely good. What Nate (N, Near) said about his character to be a sadistic murderer wasn't completely right.
