I was thinking on how were not allowed to post in a thread that hasn't had any posts in a month and thought that it might not be such a bad Idea to have a section for dead threads where you can post even if there hasn't been any new posts in the thread for a month.

so would this be too much trouble?

Im not sure about that, if a thread hasn't recieved a post in a month its probably for a reason. E.G the topic is dead, everything has already been mentioned.

But i wouldn't mind it, some threads just die because Vs threads and such attract the most attention.

Sounds good in theory, but in practice it would be too much of a work. The NB staff would have to move every dead thread to this forum and keep watching threads to move them once they die. I don't think NB has the capacity to do such a task.

This would actually be a good punishment for bad mods. Make a usergroup called custodian, with no moderating privileges, but the ability to move posts. Move 500 dead posts by tomorrow or you're fired!!! :)

Eh no and then the entire point of that rule is wasted. Not to mention it's not realistic in practice.

Maybe there should be an automatic sort of thing, like I have on my forum. But I'm not on V Bulletin, so I don't know if it would work...

as do I U_U

No. First and for all not all threads that haven't been active for a month are forbidden to post in, so that makes that option already impossible unless you start making things complicated. On top of that that would mean that around 90% of all threads on NB would be moved to that section =/
Outside the fact that such a sudden move of so many threads could overload the forum, it would be chaotic as you completely loose the entire structure and organization of the forum =/ Not to mention it wouldn't solve a thing as then you just shifted the problem as one of the reasons we have that rule is to give other threads a chance, which then also should be the case there.

Also it depends on the section whether we take the one month rule strict or not. In a section as the FF section it can be quite a problem to have enough chance for your FF to be read. If someone starts to read a FF that has a number of chapters and bumps the first 5 chapters from one year ago even though they have been dead for a year on the same moment you post your first chapter, the chances that your FF is read become even lower. Is that fair? Of course not, those chapters already had their chance, so to give everyone a fair chance those chapters can not be bumped.
However in the section as the Library section where there isn't much activity it's possible a non active thread is still on the first page, if you bumped it's not like it's going to make much difference.

So no, this is a bad idea.

IDK Cali. It seems to work well for me. But like I said, I'm not on VBulletin, and I can make hard things seem simple sometimes... I'm gonna get a VBulletin Forum and experiment with it. I'll let you know of my results.
