That was only shown at the end of the non-canon Bardock movie, i think.

The real question is why did the planet getting destroyed when Goku was 3 when Raditz hinted at it happening when he was 16-18

the special movies are considered canon, the bardock and trunks one.. but he came up with some bullshit in this dbz minus. and im almost certain grandpa gohan found goku naked as a baby landed in the woods somewhere in the series.

Planet vegeta was destroyed when goku was

i just had a look, and yes the first episode of dbz master roshi shows and talks about goku as a baby. at the very least the special movies follow the plot properly.

EDIT: ah lol just read your edit, yeah i agree with that XD, although there are some inconsistencies with the history of trunks for the most part it's fine
