on that you are rigth. DBZ wasent a very good anime, or manga at all. it was all about the battles.
it's not THE WORST anime EVER but it doe's suck, the story is horrible the fighting is repetitive and it make's no sense at all for all of those boss's to come to one planet all the time when it's multi-planets in the series. plus goku is the only character that's strong? that's boring to watch one guy all the time while the other's die. and the movie's are even more stupid. but I've seen way worst but in the most worst ranking dbz is like top 5 but the first db was pretty cool and not forced on the fans like dbz was the manga is terrible omg the anime was better by far.
sadly i agree i hated them depending on the dragonballs
Some can accept the truth

Thats the best answer I've ever read to a dumba** question or statement on Narutobase. Porps to you my friend props to you. DB,DBZ, and DBGT are awesome, without them there would probably be no Naruto
someone has to make the mold before you can break the mold. right?

so i say DB, DBZ and DBGT have there place in history and i still look foundly on them.
Not Correct i think DB GT was a fail. DB and DBZ were awesome but DB GT was certainly a fail.

DBZ was the anime that made mainstream America aware of anime. The two aren't even the same. Naruto has to develop it's characters cos that's what the story is about. DBZ is the classical story of good vs. evil. It doesnt call for all the details and stuff because at the end of the day evil is evil and it must be stopped.
Pretty much. ^

Hmm, that's kinda possible. For people who're born in the 2000's and those countries with limited anime airings (also those born in Japan in the same time period) might have never heard of DB, hence DB Kai. Toei knows how to milk the most out of its franchises.

I concede that DB paved the road. Naruto smoothed out the asphalt though, if you get my analogy. There are many members here who don't know what manga titles are worth reading, and it's not helping the field much. There are even some who have never heard of Onemanga. Can you believe that? Lol.

Ah yes, when we taste something for the first time it's going to stay in our taste buds even though the succeeding bites are much better. However, impossible? Nah, I don't think so. I don't want to use the OP argument though, it'll make me look like a tard, although if you don't mind I can use it if you wish.

Er, 13 years mean anything to you? Popular J-POP and K-POP bands reading and watching OP mean something? There is a reason why OP has people like Namie Amuro, Yaguchi Mari, DBSK are performing the openings unlike Naruto and Bleach who have Home Made Kazoku and Takacha. Don't believe me? Check out opening 5 of OP, that song made the top in the charts, and it was BOYSTYLE's debut song, and these aren't exactly your typical anime singers. I think there's a candidate for upending DB's throne now. Reruns on Saturdays doesn't really bode well for a franchise 10 years behind its prime, but when it's the only dubbed show done well it's bound to stick to people's minds.

We'll see in 10 more years then. :)
Yeah, they kinda made it impossible for someone not to know Dragon Ball; atleast heard its name if nothing else. I won't be surprised if they make it like in 3D in some years.

I like how you said that DBZ paved the road and Naruto smoothed out the asphalt. I agree with that. As for people being misguided in their manga choices and still unknowing the existence of some great mangas, well, that's not really something that has a relation with DBZ or Naruto. It's mostly a matter of choice and opinion - just like for any entertainment form. Be it music, movies, sports ect..., everyone got their own choice and they can't know all music existing.

Well, perhaps, you are more connected with OP which is nothing wrong. You may be right in that sense but for a majority, I don't think they re-live the DBZ kind of impact in any other mangas. Just my view.

I understand that 13 years is a hell lot of time and OP deserves full prop for that but nonetheless, OP never made the same impact as in Japan worldwide. Don't get me wrong, it is an extremely popular manga, one of the most original ones and ones of the most enjoyable ones. Even if I have a little bit more than a halfway to catch up, I can easily put OP as one of the best I've read. But the only reason I don't think I will re-iterate DBZ's influence (despite being so much better) is because it never had that necessary worldwide influence. Even I head of OP in around 2003-2004 when it started in 1999. The day the worldwide audience will accept OP in a similar way like in japan, then it will have surpass everything in all aspects.

I think, it's the best option indeed.

OKay, obviously i came to this thread very late. 15 pages, not gonna read it all.

Imagine this Naruto Shippuden as of right now is more or less DBZ. Think about it, All DBZ was goku fights, dies, stronger bad guy comes, everyone trains, stalls, gets ass kicked, filler, filler, filler, stalls some more till goku finishes his training or gets revivied. Naruto S. is more or less the same thing. Except the dying part of naruto.

Naruto (the first series before shippuden) had more of the back story to all of them. Yes shippuden does have a story and does continue on but much less than the first series.

Now back to DBZ......... THERE WAS A DRAGON BALL SERIES WHEN GOKU WAS YOUNGER!!!!! had all the back story there. DBGT is a bit of a taste on that which also had more of a story than DBZ. Either way DBZ created a while new genre of Anime/Manga......... End of story....

Dragonball was epic. DBZ up to the end of the Frieza saga was pretty epic too. Past that though? Yeah, it wasn't too great at all. Entertaining, but when you actually "break it down", it doesn't exactly rank as any award winning show by any means.

I've stuck to the manga of both more than the anime anyway. The manga is vastly superior, IMO.

Probably one of the few actually read/watched dragonball(not z or gt) and know that dragonball was pretty good.

People who haven't read Dragonball or at least watched the series are doing themselves a huge injustice.

It blows DBZ out of the water. It actually has interesting battles and it wasn't just Goku dominating everyone. The story in it is awesome as well. Perfect mix of action, adventure and comedy.
